GRADED: A Remarkably Close Majors Finish
#1
What a remarkably close Major League finish.

Congratulations to Reykjavik United for eking out a championship with 27 points, besting defending champion Schwarzwalder FV by the narrowest of margins with a one point edge.

The top five teams in the majors table were separated by just four total points, with Uniao Sao Paulo finishing third with 27 points and CA Buenos Aires and Tokyo S.C. tying for fourth (or fifth, depending on how you want to count it) with 23 points apiece.

Schwarzwalder FV finished with seven wins and two losses, but it was ultimately their five draws – and an inability to capture win points in those five contests – that prevented them from repeating as champions. In comparison, Reykjavik had eight wins, three losses, but only three games decided in a draw. Being plus-one in the win column allowed them to accumulate enough points (or should I say, the one point needed) to earn championship honors, despite losing more contests than Schwarzwalder.

Reykjavik and Schwarzwalder always seem to be in locked horns with each other vying for the seasonal SSL crown. It’s extremely exciting that George Shaheen is in the Reykjavik organization and may have the opportunity to jump right into that pseudo-rivalry when his time to join the majors roster comes.

For now, the focus remains as it has been throughout the minors journey. Development. And Shaheen will continue to work with the managers of Reykjavik/North Shore to do so in those areas that will continue to allow Reykjavik to vie for the top of the table once Shaheen joins them.
