Returning to the league as an Academy team due to the depth of the Season Twenty draft class, Adowa Accra came roaring out of the gates. The revived team finished the academy season with an 8-1-5 record, good enough to place second on the ladder! As one would expect from a team that saw success like this, Accra's roster was chock-full of talent. In this deep dive, we shall see how the draft shook out for the seven Accra players drafted!
The first Accra player off the board was the big Pokéman in the middle Ronflex, ending up with Tokyo F.C. at the 10th pick in the draft. Ronflex led Accra in progressive passes with 86 completions while also narrowly finishing second on the team in press percentage at 36.45%.
The next Accra player was immediately afterwards at the 11th pick, with Cade Power being selected by Schwarzwälder FV. Only appearing in twelve matches with the squad, Power tallied three player of the match nods scoring 7 goals and assisting on 2 more. His consistent greatness led Power to the highest average match grade on the team at 7.52, good enough for 6th in the entire academy.
Coming in at the 24th pick to CD Tenochtitlan is defensive stalwart Draz Tathille! Tathille led the entire academy in total headers with an astounding 113 at a fourth place header percentage rate of 81.3%. As a result of his aerial wizardry Tathille was named player of the match once. Tathille also led Accra in successful passes, attempted passes, and pass percentage!
Another defensive player off the board, Cesare Pinkman is reunited with Tathille on CD Tenochtitlan with the 39th pick. Pinkman led Accra in chances created with 12, dribbles with 41, and open play key passes with 25. Pinkman himself winning another player of the match, this pairing of teammates will surely pay dividends for the new squad from Mexico City.
Jared Scott was drafted with the 47th pick by the Shanghai Dragons FC. Despite only appearing in 11 matches, Scott managed to tie for the team lead in both key passes and successful crosses at 39 and 25 respectively.
Two picks later at 49th overall, Stig Stempe is once again playing with Scott on the Shanghai Dragons FC. Stempe was the player who tied Scott in the two aforementioned stats, while also leading the team in distance ran at 196.7 km. Interestingly enough, Stempe notched the exact same stat totals in interceptions and clearances, the interceptions mark leading the team. Shanghai has acquired the second monster defensive core from Accra in this draft.
Almost assuredly the steal of the draft, Zlatan Gibrahimovic was selected by CF Catalunya with the 75th overall pick. That is right folks, Mr Offsides himself fell shamefully far. Gibra led Accra with 12 goals and 24 shots on target, winning player of the match three times. A team leader both on and off the field, it is truly absurd that THE Zlatan Gibrahimovic was the final Accra player selected in the draft.
