The Team with No Soul
#1
Bartholomew Twinkletoes has arrived at Seoul FC in Season 18 finding a broken team with broken dreams. Throughout that season himself, and the back line would turn the tides of history and show that Seoul did, in fact, have soul as they went from last in season 17 all the way up to third with one of the best defenses in the league. They were hoping to use this momentum to continue being a force to be reckoned with as they entered season 19 however that, was not meant to be.

They started matchday 1 with a seven goal thriller and while it was an exciting watch for most, for Seoul it was a worrying sign. They came out with the 4-3 win over Athenai FC but it would seem that their impenetrable wall of a defense one season ago now had a gaping hole and if it wasn't plugged could lead to devastating results. In matchday 2 the promising attack that had scored four goals just one matchday ago was held scoreless as Bartholomew and the Seoul defense would let in two goals to lose their first match of the campaign. While this was a tough pill to swallow it was a two goal loss against a team that would only drop two matches all season so while it hurt, it wasn't the end of the world as the team knew they were likely not looking to win the minor league crown. However, internal conflict was starting to begin as matchday 3 saw the team go scoreless for the second time in as many matchdays. Bartholomew and the defense could only do so much to stop an ever increasing attack while their own attack sputtered and died off completely. After scoring four goals in matchday 1 they had now been held scoreless two straight times. Morale was at an all time low but matchday four saw the team rejuvenated behind a three goal performance that lifted the team over the Inter London in a hard fought 3-2 victory. For those keeping score at home it would seem scoring goals helps you win as through four matchdays Seoul was undefeated in matches that they scored a goal in. However, all good things must come to an end and the Seoul attack once again disappeared in matchday 5 as they scored exactly zero times on their way to a 3-0 defeat. The polarizing style of Seoul was becoig abundantly clear as they would crush Cairo FC 4-2 in matchday 6 making their record an even 3-3-0. At the midpoint in the season Seoul had a date with North Shore United who gave them their first defeat in a match that they scored a goal in as they fell 3-2 in a score that was seeming quite common.

It was the halfway point in the season and the Seoul team's identity seemed to be one of having no identity. They would go from scoring four goals to scoring no goals without rhyme or reason. and the mediocrity and inexperience of the team was on full display. At the halfway point something must have clicked as matchday 8 they were set to face the deadly and unstoppable Montreal United. They, much like Seoul one season ago, relied heavily on their defense to win them matches. While they scored the third most goals in the season, they were even better on defense only allowing 22 goals all season and against a Seoul team that struggled to score goals the majority of the time, this match seemed like it had a clear winner before the whistle even blew. Seoul was only able to muster up one goal but as the final whistle blew the Montreal players looked up at the scoreboard in shock to find they had been shutout by Bartholomew Twinkletoes and Seoul FC and lost 1-0. Seoul handing the number one overall team their first of only two losses shows just how polarizing they were. They were a middling team that could beat the best but could also lose to the worst but that wouldn't happen in matchday 9 as they coasted to a 3-1 win over the bottom ranked Athenai FC. With momentum on their side Seoul was feeling more confident than they probably should have as they entered matchday 10 going up against the eventual second place FC Kaapstad. Kaapstad quickly put Seoul in their place and put up four goals against the clearly inferior team. Seoul mustered up two goals but it was far from enough and Seoul would go back to their losing ways for the first time in three matchdays. A hard fought 2-1 victory in matchday 11 meant they were doomed for failure come matchday 12 and fail did they ever as they handed Inter London one of their two victories in a 4-0 thrashing that lacked everything to be desired. Seoul would split the last two and end with an even seven wins and seven losses.

While they ended with the same amount of wins as one season ago the losses were more extreme and the draws nonexistent. The offense for Seoul was far from amazing and lacked cohesion and a true leader from the start. Qartista led the team in goals with eight, Ahmed scraped together four while Walker reached three and Bamford and Heung-Min managed a pair each. To put it simply, it wasn't enough.  The team scored the second least amount of goals while the defense regressed toward the mean. The team would drop two places from one season ago and it seemed were still building and learning each others weaknesses by seasons end. But reinforcements have arrived in a record breaking draft new recruits have arrived to make their mark on Seoul FC with midfield help coming from Daibhi Barr and Bread Lasso. With Twinkletoes looking like he will be moving up to the majors in the coming seasons GMs pulled the trigger on a new GK selecting James Asprey to fill the all important spot between the posts. That defense would also be bolstered by left wing back Badrick Blackwood V and the weak attack helped by the addition of striker Zlatan Gibrahimovic.

As Twinkletoes story with Seoul nears a creshendo he leaves behind a team with questions that have yet to be answered. As far as Twinkletoes himself, he ended the season improving on his season 18 performance with a  respectable 6.97 overall rating and one player of the match performance. He also received the Cole Mertz best Seoul defender award truly showing just how crucial he was to the teams success. The identity of Seoul FC is up in the air and only the start of season 20 will be able give us the answers we so badly long for but for now we wait, train, and push ourselves to improve as we get ready for the upcoming season.
