S21 Draft Class Analysis

Figured a good way to get my media career with the SSL started would be to analyze part of the upcoming draft class and some of its strengths and weaknesses of the players involved. Specifically for this piece I will be discussing all the midfielders and offering a brief scouting report of each one. All attributes discussed will be as of time of this writing.

James Valderrama – Center Attacking Midfielder – Pace is not the name of Valderramas game, as a matter of fact it would take a miracle to find someone who is currently slower at this point in their career. Where they make up for that is in their mental game, with an incredible ability to know where to be and how to see the field and make the perfect play every single time.

Academic Victim – Center Defensive Midfielder – No major parts that stand out for Victims scouting report, but there is a lot that they do well. While not likely to score a ton of goals with their current ability with the ball, they appear to be a great team player and likely should be a menace for all seat pieces that they are a part of.

Joe Martin – Center Midfielder – The English product showcases a playmaking ability that not many in this class likely possess now. Their passing is incredible and their selflessness with the ball is going to make them incredibly valuable for teams looking to feed those goal hungry strikers.

Kori Mizukana – Center Defensive Midfielder – Coming out of Japan is another incredibly well-rounded player who looks to be a nightmare for any offense trying to come through their area on the field. With the ability to tackle anyone and everyone, and while still being a good contributor on offense as well, Mizukana looks to be a piece who should go early in the drafts.

Leah Slothinson – Center Midfielder – Where Valderrama was discussed earlier as a technically sound player with lacking physical attributes, Slothinson is the opposite end of the spectrum. She has tons of raw athleticism which cannot be taught, but watching her with a soccer ball is almost a comedy. Definitely a raw product that needs refining but could be a decent player out of the draft, just not immediately.

Roy Rivers – Center Attacking Midfielder – Another physical specimen, unlike Slothinson, Rivers actually has parts of their mental and technical game developed. They’re phenomenal at making space with the ball and has the ability to dribble past any defender with ease, they should become a great playmaker in the league assuming everything goes right for them.

Brodie James – Center Attacking Midfielder – Another center attacking midfielder in this loaded class, the Aussie product appears to be a goal scoring threat form the get go. With their ability to finish, any halfway decent playmaker should be getting this player the ball at any possible opportunity.

Pope Francis – Center Midfielder – The pontifex himself has decided to pick up the soccer ball and he is doing so with style. Easily the leader of the draft class in terms of pure style and flair with every ball that they kick, this playmaking pope should be a solid contributor to any team immediately, just do not ask him to Jump for a ball, I do not think his old knees can handle it.

Anthony Simmons – Center Midfielder – A similar build to the aforementioned Slothinson, Simmons is a pure athletic freak of nature. They will be sprinting past everybody as they chase down balls left and right and get up the pitch in a hurry. They can even sneakily be a good playmaker as well so their development will be fun to watch.
