Roy Rivers grew up idolizing Pablo Aimar. Pablo Aimar had some problems with injuries, or else he would be considered among the best players in the world, ever! Just how El Mago would behave himself on the field, every time he would touch the ball, every dribble, every pass. Roy grew up looking at that player, and thinking… I want to be like that!
So, Roy started playing at Center Attacking Midfield like his idol, and he started being good at it. A professional career was maybe in the cards, at least in his mind, but not for people around him: “it’s impossible Roy, it’ll never happen, it’s a one in a million chance” Roy was told.
Then the impossible turned possible. He got picked up by Victoria Falls Eagles. He trained hard, he played hard and he started on the team’s first game. The team started playing badly in the first half, even conceded a goal. At halftime, Roy had a 6.4 rating, which is bad. His teammates al-Kazmi, Allie Bunson, Zimmerman, and Chicken McTendie saw he wasn’t looking good and encouraged him on during the break. The Manager even throw a bottle at him, in a friendly way.
Second half… Zimmerman saw Roy getting late to the box and with a perfectly timed crossing, place the ball in Roy’s feet and… HE SCORED! Roy scored his first goal! All the team celebrated the goal, what a great moment.
The team battled all game, but couldn’t score the second goal. A tie was all we could muster, but it was good for a start. And it gave Roy Rivers the confidence he needed for the next games.
