Krung Thep Crunk Step - First Season
#1
Krung Thep’s Hip Hop – First Tour

For a brand-new team, Krung Thep were able to entertain neutrals on their fall to a 6th place finish out of 10 teams. This is made more impressive by the fact that they finished only 9 points off the title.

In fact, based on the xG Table, Krung Thep deserved to be as high as FOURTH PLACE! The upstart crew can be proud of their showing this season, particularly in the second half where they *consults notes* were the best team in the league!?!

To honor a season gone by, I will briefly look over each of the contributors to this inaugural season. I will go in ascending order of average rating as assigned by the FM Match Engine and give my own grade to each player as well. Please note that average ratings, goal contributions, and player of the match statistics will include both Minors and Cup games.

Olafur Gunnleifsson – 6.74 Avg Rating, D+
The goalkeeper affectionately dubbed “Gunny” was a mixed bag throughout but seemed to become more solid as the season progressed. In the first half of the season, he was competing with Otto von Bismarck in a race to the bottom to be the worst in save percentage and expected goals prevention. In the end, Gunny was quite close to the middle of the pack in both metrics analytically, though still finding himself in the negative quadrant. He is retiring and will be missed.

KRUNGTHEP SUPERSUB – 6.78 Avg Rating, C-
The amorphous entity did its job when called upon, albeit without glitz or glamour.

Bobby Green – 6.80 Avg Rating, B-
Bobby Green was tasked with being a more stalwart compliment to Draz Tathille’s more adventurous style of defense. The match engine does not reward the dirty work often, so getting a 6.80 average rating in spite of that is moderately impressive. He ranked among top defenders in key tackles and blocks and also chipped in 3 goals during the campaign off corners. With a bit more grease of those wheels in the form of adding more Pace/Acceleration, Bobby Green will push his development into overdrive.

Adam Knight – 6.82 Avg Rating, C+
The “Running Man” covered a good chunk of grass each match and even chipped in offensively to the tune of 1G / 4A. He was solid and his retirement will result in a void in the defense that the organization will look to find a replacement in either the draft or trade. I tried to find any statistical category that Knight stood out in, but he seemingly ran away from the spotlight.

Billy Elliott – 6.95 Avg Rating, B
He danced his way into our hearts and jived his way through the defense. A midseason change to Winger unlocked a new facet to his game, and he thrived in the role. The youngster recorded 3 goals, 9 assists, and the 3rd most dribbles on the team behind star winger Joe Mamba and Dom Patterson. A fantastic start to a fledgling career.

Draz Tathille – 7.02 Avg Rating, A
This man is a statistical phenomenon. The 2nd most attempted headers and key headers, along with the 5th best heading % amongst active users. On the ground he was similarly effective, recording the 2nd most key tackles (1st among active users), and finishing top 10 in shot blocks among active users. One could excuse him if he wasn’t involved in the offense, but he had 9 total goal contributions (7G/2A). Draz Tathille and Bobby Green combined to lead the backline, and their partnership strengthened as the season progressed. The sky is the ceiling.

Tonto Tut – 7.06 Avg Rating, A-
Tut was asked to do a lot of the grunt work covering the 3rd most distance of any players in the Minors. The captain went on with his job without complaint and was a sore in the oppositions side, hounding them from one end of the pitch to the other. Tut contributed 5 goals and 2 assists to the cause, with a few memorable long shots along the wall. Tut is expected to apply his trade in the Majors next season with Club Deportivo Tenochtitlan.

Andre Caetano – 7.08 Avg Rating, A- rating
When Caetano went 7th overall in the S20 Prospect Draft, eyebrows were raised. When news reports were circulating that his father was a major investor in the expansion organization, pitchforks were raised even higher than the eyebrows were. However, somehow, the player who had 1 goal and 1 assist in the academy was able to quintuple his total goal contributions (3G/7A) and pop in with 2 Player of the Match (PotM) awards.

Roger Roger – 7.28 Avg Rating, A
The battle-tested droid looked the part this season, recording 18 goals and 3 assists in his debut campaign in the Minors. He led Krung Thep in goals and received a PotM award, representing great value at 31st overall in the S20 Prospect Draft. He has quickly become a fan favorite amongst the supporters, with Roger Roger Facemasks ranking as the top-selling merchandise this past season.

Jonny Elliott – 7.34 Avg Rating, A+
Jonny recorded the 3rd most tackles won among all Minors players and was a creative force for Krung Thep. He linked up superbly with his Coca Cola Kids teammate Tonto Tut and developed a great understanding with star winger Joe Mamba in the final third. Many of Jonny’s assists came from crosses landing on the head of his other Coca Cola Kids teammate Dom Patterson. Jonny Elliott was a sparkplug across the pitch, recording a PotM award, and will play a key role next season in the Majors with the Technoclan.

Joe Mamba – 7.45 Avg Rating, A+
This kid is a star. Left unprotected in the S20 Expansion Draft, Mamba continued his sublime form from S19 with his new team. He recorded 4 PotM awards, tied for most on the team with Dom Patterson. Mamba was a madman on the pitch, contending for leads in statistical categories ranging from interceptions (4th most), dribbles (3rd most), assists (tied for most), and finished top 10 in key passes. Joe Mamba will find himself in the starting eleven in the Majors next season with CD Tenochtitlan.

Dom Patterson – 7.61 Avg Rating, A+
A contender for Rookie of the Year in the Minors, Dom Patterson just edged star winger Joe Mamba and clinical shooter Roger Roger in goal contributions on the season, getting 22 (15G/7A) to their respective 21 goal contributions. Big Dom scored in any way he could, whether it was his head, left boot, right boot, abdomen; heck, he’d have scored with his [REDACTED] if he could! Big Dom plans to terrorize defenses in the Minors for one more season before eventually joining his fellow Coca Cola Kids at Tenochtitlan’s training grounds.
