2025-06-13, 12:44 PM - Word count:
The early years of the Athênai dynasty was seen taking a page out of their fellow city-state Sparta's playbook. In the inaugural season Athênai set the tone with the lowest number of conceded goals (13) and followed that up with another two seasons of conceding barely more than one goal per game (12 in 14 games and 19 in 18 games). Unfortunately the defensive prowess of the team did not see them soar high in the standings as they had difficulty putting the ball in the opposition net. The top placement was a solid second place finish in S2 albeit 9 points behind the undefeated Hollywood FC.
This period of the SSL was also one of the more volatile ones with expansions happening every season up until season 7. As such the back line of the team saw some movement during all the while keeping with the defensive nature of the tactic.
GK - Jannik Andersen @AW13
With a full set of 10 league appearances and a 4-5-1 record, Andersen was the final outpost of the team. Putting up 3 clean sheets (tied 1st) and a 71.11 save percentage (4th) from 45 total shots (lowest on a per game basis) he managed to keep Athênai out of trouble the few times the defense didn't do their work.
LD - Deedee Yoker @askedmadden
"The Flying Scotsman" or that wasn't maybe what he was called yet, but Yoker was a stalwart running up and down on the left side contributing to the team's offense. He was also present on the defensive side with 34 interceptions, 41 clearances and 14 successful tackles.
RD - A Singular Tub of FazeBerry ® GFuel ® Energy Formula - The Official Drink of ESports ® @sve7en
GFuel was similar to Yoker during this first season amassing 17 tackles (1 key tackle), 26 interceptions and 55 clearances.
CD - Henrik Lind @Canadice
Henrik was initially built as a central defensive midfielder but due to the lack of central defenders in this first batch of players, he had to move back to CD where he would play out the majority of his career. Lind was a pillar in the air with 90 successful headers (16 key), 23 interceptions and 113 clearances.
CD - Budget Busquets @omniscius
Another player build as a central defensive midfielder that had to take a step back to the back line during the first season. He later went on to spend the rest of his career back at CDM.
During this first season, Busquets held fast with 66 successful headers (8 key), 21 interceptions and 67 clearances. Athênai managed to hold off the opposition on the ground with Busquets only picking up 4 successful tackles (80 percent) in comparison to the other stats.
GK - Jannik Andersen
The best season for the player and the team by far. Sporting an 8-3-3 record with a league leading 5 clean sheets and a save percentage of 82.86 percent from 70 shots becoming the first goalie to surpass 80 percent in a full season.

CD - Henrik Lind
This season really showed Linds aerial capabilities, he was untouchable with 284 successful headers out of 329 (86 percent), 43 of them classified as key. Adding to that 227 clearances and 50 interceptions.
CD - Eirlys Snooks @Aleris
With Busquets moving on to play for his hometown CF Catalunya, Snooks came in to take up a defensive role in the back line. 120 wins in 154 aerial duels (78 % success, 14 of them key), and she backed that up with 42 interceptions and 108 clearances.
Andersen is once again leading the league in clean sheets (tied with 5) and a save percentage of 75 percent from 76 total shots. A positive record of 7-6-3 was a bit of a setback compared to previous seasons but with a younger back line with a stronger oppositional offense, Andersen still held his own.

RD - Timo Reinmann @rory
Stepping in to replace GFuel (picked up by Sydney City in the expansion draft), Reinmann picked up 16 appearances in S3 with one player of the match performance. Taking more of a defensive role than GFuel, Timo succeeded with 110 headers (86.61 percent with 4 key) 26 tackles (3 key), 54 interceptions and 83 clearances.
CD - Henrik Lind
During this final season of Athênai defensive dominance, Lind did not stop winning his aerial duels, reaching a 90 percent success rate over 254 duels (38 key). With another 45 interceptions and 176 clearances there wasn't a lot getting back towards Andersen.
CD - Eirlys Snooks
In her final season for Athênai Snooks was a strong pairing with Lind: 109 wins in 165 aerial duels (66 % success, 9 of them key), plus 37 interceptions and 96 clearances.
