Catalunya Org Dive
#1
The organization we are going to look at today is the Catalunya Organization. After a humongous roster turnover over the past couple of seasons, Catalunya as an organization is on the way up even if their Major League results haven’t shown it yet. Since Season 18, Catalunya has gone:

S18: 1/4/9 (7 Points, GD of -23)
S19: 5/0/9 (15 Points, GD of -11)
S20: 2/0/16 (6 points, GD of -41)
S21: 3/2/8 (11 Points GD of -24) So Far…

For an average record of 3/2/11 (Rounded up) which gets you 11 points, and with an average goal differential of -25 (also rounded). Looks terrible doesn’t it? For the first two seasons there, totally agreed, players were being phased out and rookies were thrown into the deep end to meet majors’ activity requirements. But Finally, it is seemingly turning around for them. As we take a look at the Minors Records:

S18: 7/2/5 (23 Points, GD of +5)
S19:  7/0/7 (21 Points, GD of -8)
S20: 11/2/5 (35 Points, GD of +17)
S21: 7/1/4 (22 Points, GD of +14) So Far…
For Seoul that gives us an average record of 8/1/5 (rounded) which gives you 25 points. Along with an average goal differential of +7 that’s a team with a bright future ahead of it.

With the exception of S19 where there were a handful of promotions to the majors’ squad, we see a positive trend (especially) of Goal differential. Now this is a normally a given as young players mature and increase their TPE levels. But what is seemingly making this special is that for Seasons 18-20 Seoul had one of the lowest TPE Levels in the minors! Even this season, they are at an 830 TPE average for their squad (Catalunya averages 1074 TPE), which while not the lowest (anymore) ranks 4th in the minors which gives plenty of room for further improvement!

All of this, in addition to Quite possibly the UNLUCKIEST season in SSL history for Catalunya during S20 with 25 goals for against an xG of 35.6 (call it 36) for -11 Goals expected over the season while at the same time allowing 66 Goals, with an xGA of 42.2 (Call it 42) for an increase of 24 goals allowed, IF we adjust their values now that absolutely horrendous -41 GD becomes a much more reasonable -6. All of this is happening while the majority of the reinforcements are in the Minors. So with a corps of youngsters all hitting their primes at the same time, and some regression towards average of Catalunya’s absolutely rotten luck could see some massive changes at the top of the SSL table. Especially as Expansion further dilutes the top end talent and aging comes for everybody. With a Few promotions and continued growth It is looking like an amazing future is in store for the Catalans as well as the Seoulites.

One final thing that needs to be mentioned lest I do all of them a massive disservice by not saying anything about them, is the brain trust we have going in the organization. What with @aegis, @omniscius, @trella, @Voodooman,@JeffreyDaniels, @piza, and others, we have a good combination of brains and tactical know-how to maximize the growth of our players, both build wise and tactics wise. I wouldn’t be here in this situation talking about our bright future without them and I feel that WHEN we finally reach the mountaintop, it will all come down to the work that the Brain trust (Along with the players) have done, and I am just along for the ride.
