Head Down, Eyes Up

It’s been an interesting couple of weeks for Kaspars Kalinins as he gets settled in Stockholm, not far, but not close to his Latvian origins. He’s still new to the soccer world, at least for the fans and the scouts, so he’s been getting a lot of background attention. His agent had him delete his social media, and really stay off the phones as much as possible. It’s all about training, earning a contract, and letting his agent do the reputation work. Of course, you can’t join any club, even an academy club without making at least a few press appearances. Kaspars has been keeping to the script, emphasizing the system, keeping possession, and capitalizing on scoring chances. While he’s no media sensation, he’s been trained to keep it snappy, keep it vague, and keep it predictable. Bad press in nothing but, and good press, well that’s pretty much impossible in our day and age. So it’s been a lot of low profile, keeping his head down, and focusing on what really matters. Stockholm is a beautiful city, and getting into the community, not the headlines, that’s the best way to get involved socially, without getting distracted from the game at hand.

Excited to see Kaspars Kalinins and his story. I think the article goes across a number of different subjects, briefly going into each. A few grammatic or spelling issues that don't detract from the overall piece, though I do think the flow is a bit disjointed. A good introduction for the player, but it doesn't quite hit the higher grades. If it included some more depth on one of the topics, or a strong insight related to the player, I'd have graded it higher!
