Once an up and coming talent for his amateur clubs and now getting a taste in the academy team of Port Royal, Thomas Schwarte has had an average start of his season.
After five appearances he is in the middle of the pack when you look at the match ratings, with an average rating of 6.78.
However this rating doesn't paint the whole picture of his performance.
Port Royal has had a strong start with some big victories over Atlético (7-3), Victoria Falls (2-3) and Sydney City (6-1).
When we dig deeper into the statistics of Thomas we see that he has had contributed his team with a lot of key passes (12).
Furthermore he is in the top-5 when we look at his attempted crosses (58) with a succesful percentage of 20.69% which places him in the top 4 when we look at the succesful crosses (12).
So we can say that, although his average rating isn't up there (yet), he does contribute to his team in a meaningful and potentially dangerous way by putting his teammates in goalscoring position.
When we look at his goal attempts, as a wingback, he is getting his shots in on target (4). So it is only a question of time until he will start scoring a goal, like his teammate, Turk, on the opposite side of the pitch who has scored 5 goals and has given 3 assists.
Looking further Schwarte has had some succes in the air as well. Standing at 194cm tall he is one of the bigger players in the league, although nothing compares to his teammate Sky Scraper.
His length does help him with his aerial abilities. After 5 matches he has a heading percentage of 64.71% (11/17). We do see chances there for Schwarte to create more opportunities for himself when his teammates are getting the crosses in.
In terms of his defensive abilities Schwarte is prone to making fouls. In his 5 matches he has made 7 fouls and picked up 1 yellow card. However he does have succes with his tackling. As 75% of his tackles are succesful (15/20).
When getting into the final third he does well to anticipate his opponents shots with 4 blocks where 1 is a blocked shot.
So all in all we see positives in the abilities of Schwarte, who is still finding his footing in the academy of Port Royal.
Although he only has 1 assist (courtesy of a replayed match) we do see positives and expect this number to go up in the near future.
Looking at his abilities we expect the trainer to invest in his finishing ability to make more of an impact on his goal scoring ability.
Also we do expect the trainer to keep investing in his corner and crossing ability. This way he will be helping his teammates more in giving them chances to score.
Port Royal will be playing Stockholm IK in their next match on 15-09-2025. A match that Port Royal is expecting to win, when we look at the standings.
We think that Schwarte will be looking to pick himself up again after a lesser performance against Adowa Accra FC.
