The following is a scouting analysis for Sydney City FC's latest class.
Pujan Kothari - 9 Apps / 2 Goals / 3 Assists / 7.19 Avg
An unassuming yet productive wing back, he's been played in a position that really doesn't fit the squad as a whole. Aside from a disappointing performance against Port Royal, Kothari has had a rather solid season so far with recent weeks showing significant improvements.
Predicted 4* Recruit
Season so far: B
Cong Minh Dao - 9 Apps / 2 Goals / 3 Assists / 7.01 Avg
Promising start for the left back has unfortunately been countered with a lack of activity in recent weeks leading to him likely to being dropped. He would otherwise be a 4* recruit but due to the lack of recent performances and a significant slowness to pick up and run the ball down the left, we have to lower his ratings so far.
Predicted 2* Recruit
Season so far: C+
Monkey Buccaneer - 2 Apps / 1 Goal / 0 Assist / 7.35 Avg
This is going to be rather difficult and we can only base it on Monkey's two appearances having been a very late recruit mid season. Sydney City has been desperate for a defensive midfielder which Monkey appears to be fitting for, however since there's been many gaps within this Sydney squad, Monkey has had to play in a variety of roles including as a CB recently against Stockholm. Not the paciest defensive player, he does have a very good technical awareness though may be lacking the physical side of the game to really dominate midfield however I'm confident he'll only improve throughout the season.
Predicted 4* Recruit
Season so far: Too soon
Seth McNeil - 9 Apps / 1 Goal / 4 Assists / 7.03 Avg
Slow burner Seth McNeil started the season very unassuming on the right side of Sydney City's attack. However, as the season progressed, he has begun to look more comfortable within the side with his best performance against Istanbul seeing him notch up a MotM appearance with a goal and 2 assists. Seems to be the only player that is performing in recent matches as Sydney City's struggles continue. He still needs to work on his dribbling and ball management as a lot of mistake can creep into his game when he loses the ball but his creativity is certainly looking promising especially as his 5 goal contributions in the past 4 matches helps during Jiang You's rather odd dry patch.
Predicted 5* Recruit
Season so far: B-
Jiang You - 9 Apps / 3 Goals / 4 Assists / 7.11 Avg
The Chinese wonderkid had something of a 'Yousanity' moment in his first five games with 7 goal contributions but has since dropped off. It seems to be the same loss of confidence that is seen within the entire Sydney side that has seen them with only 1 win in 4 games with a few heavy demolitions at the hands of Adowa Accra and Victoria Falls. With a lot of pace and good crossing ability, Jiang is already on the radar of some SSL teams however he'll be hoping the second half of the season mirrors that of his first few matches rather than recent form. Will be perfect for teams looking for a creative left or right side winger who likes to wander in deep and also get on the score sheet. Preferably fitting with a good pacy fullback to be able to overlap one another.
Predicted 5* Recruit
Season so far: B
Hans Grudnar - 4 Apps / 1 Goal / 0 Assist / 6.62 Avg
Yes, your eyes has deceived you, this is indeed not John McClane's nemesis Hans Gruber terrorising the tenants of Nakatomi Tower. Unlike the other Hans, Grudnar has certainly not terrorised any defences in the Academy League so far. A left sided attacking forward, Grudnar was unfortunately a late recruit into the Sydney City squad and has found it difficult to adapt to a side that already has a well established winger in Jiang You. The pacy forward will need to quickly adapt to the remaining games in order to help Sydney City salvage what is looking to be an underwhelming season. Only recruit is you are looking for a diversified left sided forward who can double as a second striker.
