Post-season with Lam
By Lee Fong Man
The Season 22 Academy League have just been concluded, we previously voiced our concerns on the development of our Hong Kong midfielder Nico Lam in PS Jakarta, but in the following week the long awaited tactical change happened, Lam is finally able to play at his natural position as a central midfielder, with that PS Jakarta also won all of the matches left in the season, 2-0 Sydney City at home, 5-3 Adowa Accra FC away and 6-0 Stockholm IK at home, Lam got 2 assists and a Player of the Match award in these 3 matches. The tactical change might have came a bit too late, but Lam have ended his academy season on a high note, and truly finds his form, I am sure that his family and friends are happy with the result.
We interviewed Lam about his thoughts on the season and the upcoming draft.
First of all congratulation on finishing your academy season, you guys really take it up a notch at the end of the season.
''Thank you, everyone are very happy with the result, the team feel really revitalized after the change, the offense is just clicking and everything is just way more fluid.''
Speaking of the tactical change, you guys have quite the tough season before that, how did you feel during that period?
''It was definitely tough, I was mostly playing as the sole defensive midfielder, and I'm not really built for that, I rarely get to play creatively and it kind of put me in a slump, but I just keep focusing on training, working hard, and I think I become a more complete footballer after that, so I don't think it's too much of a negative thing.''
I actually got to interview some of your ex-teammates and coach, they really vouch for you as a central midfielder, and one of them are fuming about putting you as a defensive midfielder.
''Haha, oh I am sure he is mad mad, I know exactly who that one guy is, I really should thanks them for the support later.''
So the draft is coming up, that would be a very important step for your career, have you been scouted by anyone and is there any club you would want to join?
''Yes, I have been approached by multiple clubs, I won't say who though. I actually haven't really look into the clubs yet, but I think its more important that the club wants me, instead of me wanting to join their club, afterall they would know better if I suits their need more, I would much rather join a 'small club' that I can fit perfectly into their system for than just joining a 'big club' that I won't be a good fit for.''
Last thing, thank you for interview, and good luck in the draft.
''Thank you for following my career too, I never thought people will be caring about my career that much.''
I will continue to report on his career, let's all wish Nico Lam good luck in his career, and land in the best possible team for him.
