Nikolai walked down the tunnel, disappointment filled within him. Battered by Sao Paulo, sending Catalunya in a familiar position: bottom of the table. As Nikolai made his way to the locker room, a woman pushed her way through the press door. "Nikolai!" the woman called. Nikolai turned, dreading the 3 words she told him. "Press wants you."
Nikolai made his way into the room, where a reporter stood in front of a few cameras. The reporter gestured for Nikolai to stand in front of the tall standing Catalunya wallpaper. Nikolai sighed before making his way over, greeting the crew and mentally preparing himself.
"Nikolai, a tough night for the team; 5-2 defeat at home. What's your first reaction to the result?" The reporter shoved the microphone in his face, catching Nikolai by surprise.
"Well, it's really disappointing for the team. Sao Paulo are obviously a really good side but conceding 5 isn't good enough from us, especially with the squad we've built and have this season."
The reporter nodded. "You personally had a solid game, a 7.3 match rating, more than 90% pass completion and providing an assist. How did you feel out there?"
Frowning, Nikolai answered, "My individual performance didn't win us the game, so I'd rather not speak too much into it. Maybe if I scored 2 goals and assisted another 2 we could speak on that."
The reporter seemed bewildered at that response, and tension grew in the air. "Alright.... you did pick up a yellow late on in the match. Was that frustration getting threw to you or just breaking up a counter?"
Nikolai looked on the challenge. "I guess it was pure frustration taking hold of me. That in itself shows a mental flaw that I have and maybe some of my teammates. We need to be more resilient in the matches if we are to improve."
"What is the message in the locker room for your next match against Liffeyside Celtic FC?"
Nikolai shrugged. "Stay calm and composed, and put in a good bit of training. We all need to do better and this is a great match to pick up form and start our season the way we want to. We can't let 2 poor games become 3 poor games, at that point we might as well give up and prepare ourselves for next season."
At this point, Nikolai was getting tired of the questions and just wanted to head to the showers. Before the next question could be asked, Nikolai stormed off, leaving the press room and heading to the locker room.
