Good evening and welcome to matchday number 3 in the SSL Minor League season 23. The name is Bas Steekpaas, writing for ITLondinium-zone.com, back to recap a match played by Inter London against Krung Thep FC in Estadio de Solens. The attendance totals 53.582 spectators, of which 2.334 support Krung Thep FC.
The previous three times these two teams met, all games went comfortably in favor of London. They also don't have fond memories playing this stadium, the last game they have played here resulted in a 0-5 loss against AF Masques Sacrés. After two wins in an equal number of matches London is looking to continue looking up after a disastrous 22 season. With no changes in the starting eleven we kick off against the Bangkok based squad.
The first shot comes from the left foot of Shai Madueke, rolling a couple meters wide past the goal. In the 10th minute, Bear gets the ball in his own half, starts a triangle between Paya, Gagne and Kovács. Last named turns on the jets and runs past Magool. Cuts back and a great combination to Gagne, to Cain, to Wad to Alves who makes use of the distraction from Madueke to keep Krung's Wentworth at bay and dribbles towards the goal. Shoots and defeats Bufoon with a banger in the far corner. Wonderful tiki-taka team play by London to open the score early on.
13th minute, Cain loses possession in the midfield to Stro, Stro passes to Oliver on the right flank. He makes a run for it, finds Alves in his way who almost manages to regain possession for London, Oliver beats Alves to the ball, manages a killer pass onto Bloodflame, who then passes to the center where Machado is completely free, no London defender in sight. Easy tap in for 1-1.
Krung Thep smells blood and keeps the pressure high on London. Bloodflame with a long shot that barely sails wide, followed a minute later by a huge chance for Al-Kazmi and mere seconds later Oliver who finds the post. Minute 22 Machado almost finds his second after a good low cross by Stro, but Gun Jr saves. Between all the Krung Thep pressure, Wad nearly puts London back ahead with a long screamer, just over the crossbar. After that it's yet again all Krung Thep. Oliver passes Madueke on the right side, whips in a cross and finds Stro at the second post, who manages to get his head on the ball in between three defenders. However Stun Gun Jr is well awake and taps his attempt wide.
The first thirty minutes, it's clear Krung Thep FC aren't here for a participation trophy. After a strong London start, they have taken complete control over this match. London seems especially vulnerable on the left wing. Proven again in the second minute of added time. Bloodflame gets the ball from behind, passes through on Machado, bags his second goal and relentlessly shoots it past Gun Jr. The perfect moment for Krung Thep to get in the lead in the dying seconds before half time.
It looks like London needs a second half like their opening game against Seoul to even think about getting a result here.
The usual half-time subs are in play, Cappellari for Cain and O'Neill for Madueke. No changes for the Thai team.
London is looking sharp at the start of the second half, clearly the manager has spoken some strong words. Resulting in a quick equaliser off the foot of Ozzy Trent Kovács. He scores his fourth goal of the season escaping from the attention of all Krung Thep defenders. Paya measured the assists to perfection and put Kovács in a one on one with Bufoon, with Kovács as the ecstatic winner.
London kept up the pressure at the start of the second half, leading into a big chance for Ryan O'Neill. The following corners lead to no real danger, however O'Neill gets another good chance to put London in the lead, not long after followed by a good chance for Gagne.
Krung Thep overall still with the higher quality chances, but the scoreline puts both teams at two goals a piece. No memorable events until the 79th minute where Inter London gets a free kick close to the edge of the box. Kovács hits the wall and the ball goes behind for a corner. Blanco finds Bear and fires the ball at goal, Bufoon with the safe! 5 minutes before the end, O'Neill intercepts in a spot and finds Kovács. He can't keep his cool in the one versus one and curls the ball just around the wrong side of the post. That was a massive chance to put London ahead with just a couple minutes to play.
Just a few minutes later, it's Krung Thep back on the attack. Oliver crosses to Stro at the second post, heads at goal from a near impossible angle and Gun Jr saves. The ball falls in front of Machado who has the ideal chance from 5 meters to complete his hattrick of goals. Gun Jr saves again and this time it's Stro who beats Paya to the ball and finishes for a late 2-3 for the Bangkok formation.
The 94th minute starts, the final chance for London to do something. Paya passes to Gagne in the center, beats Stro to the ball and fires a missile at the top left corner. The shot misses direction and promptly finds the head of Ryan O'Neill, the ball ricochets into the net for the last minute equaliser! I don't see that this was a header on purpose by O'Neill, but it counts nonetheless! VAR checks for offside but gives the OK a few seconds later. What an end to a rather eventful match!
Diego Machado is today's top performer with two goals and an assist.
Ryan O'Neill is voted as the Inter London player of the match.
Krung Thep continues the unbeaten streak against London, but more importantly, Inter London keeps the undefeated streak in the 23 season. Falling 2 points behind a still perfect Paris FC.
