S24 Cache Mock Draft
#1
Let us talk more about Academy, in a mock draft sort of way! Now, how should we do a mock, I don't really know any of the teams or players? Worry not, brave reader, we've got a fun method in what I'm calling "Cached Order". Now, what would that be? Well, like any responsible developer, part of the SSL website is cached, we don't want infinite data hits for information that changes pretty infrequently, so we just store (aka cache) the data and clear it out every so often, I would assume something like every half hour to every day, or whenever the index refreshes. This does give us a fun opportunity though, based on what time people wake up or do tasks, the data on the Portal is inaccurate because the cache hasn't been invalidated and reformed.

For example, the Draft Class Tracker is currently cached, I know this because I Love Zeagle is at 344 TPE and 8.5 million dollars on the list, when in actuality all of that money has been converted to TPE. Using this cached data, we're going to do a mock data and just assign people teams from the active users, justifying it as we go.

Round 1

1.01 - TSC Tokyo S.C @ 0-0-11 (0 Points) - ST Scat Cat (Soviet Sexpot)

Wow, 0 points out of 11 matches is quite shocking, you'd think you'd manage at least one draw. Pretty miserable season aside, Tokyo does get to walk out of here with the first overall pick in Soviet Sexpot! Leading this class at 361 TPE and with a huge nose for the goal, this cool cat will become the next striker for the Tokyo organization, which is surprising with the No Face selection of last season. With Scat Cat already leading in TPE, and with the Tokyo organization not having very many attacking players (L/C/R AMs or ST), this mock is off to a great start with Tokyo being able to shift either Scat Cat or No Face to the midfield, or just run a nice double striker setup!

1.02 - XLC Xelajú Cósmico FC @ 1-3-7 (6 Points) ST Miester Blobbé (Jelley)

Next up is another striker, unsurprising with how valuable they are! Plus, Blobbé Blobbé Blobbé Blobbé Blobbé Blobbé Blobbé. The new Xelajú Cósmico FC is searching for some top users, and they get an easy take with Miester Blobbé here, always active and great to chat to, I'm sure Jelley is a top name on all boards. Positionally, it's a bit of a rough fit, the Cósmico have drafted three strikers within the last two classes, and while the S22 pair seem to be destined for a AM role, Luke Walker is topping his class in TPE and is slated to be that striker of the future. I suspect there should be some positional flexibility, and we're going to get a great CAM out of Miester Blobbé.

1.03 - CFCat CF Catalunya @ 2-5-4 (11 points) - CD Austin Morley (soevil)

Catalunya takes soevil's Austin Morely next, who is due for a win! It's lovely to have a positional fit, the Catalunya defense features some defensive players who seem like they're destined to be around 1200 TPE peak, and need a third player to pair with Pablo Kawasaki and Andres De Giron moving forward, the footedness should help out on this team as well.

1.04 - Liffeyside Liffeyside Celtic FC @ 3-2-6 (11 points) - CDM Bodhi Grizz (Ltblackgrizzly)

Another great user and and another great pick here with Ltblackgrizzly's Bodhi Grizz, however, this is partially where our cache based drafting fails. GM Nol15736 is a CDM from Season 21, and with a pair of tight friends in jacobcarson + Matt Turk drafted in S23, this midfield is quite crowded, and one has to imagine this comes along with a GM swap to a position with more need, which may be Striker, as Heung-Man Smalls is starting to fall behind in TPE compared to the class leader, small price to pay in order to land such a great ~~bear~~ player.

1.05 - ACR A.C. Romana @ 4-2-5 (14 points) - CAM Lisfor ilovezeagLe (lemonoppy)

Uh, well, truly did not expect this, but this is how the cache goes I guess? Romana somehow brings ilovezeagle back, a strong, dribbly CAM who is working towards two footedness. I mean, for some obvious reasons this seems unlikely, mainly me not understanding recreate timing and possibly causing some small amount of annoyance and work for this team's management and BoD. Maybe the cache is not the best drafter

1.06 RKV Reykjavik United @ 5-2-4 (17 points) - LAM Stefano Rosini (Steee)

A great reset time, let's look north, towards Iceland. Stefano Rosini is a great crossing threat who will find it his job to breakinto a very competitive Reykjavik United midfield. With a fantastic set of attackers now, Reykjavik is surely looking towards the future with a pick such as this. Steee will have to be very willing to stay in North Shore for a bit, because he will not be breaking into that majors rosters very soon, but this is a nice looking roster indeed.

1.07 - Liffeyside Liffeyside Celtic FC @ 3-2-6 (11 points) [From Shanghai Dragons FC] - CAM Patrick Zwieg (saket23)

Liffeyside seems to be viewing their midfield as needing work, picking up an attacking option after the defensively minded Bodhi Grizz. This pick works better with the current lineup, assuming a 3-4-2-1, the pair of S18 midfielders in Leandro Dybala and Andres Pedrillo are going meet Zwieg in the earning/regression curve, and saket23 will be able to break in as those lines intersect. This leaves Liffeyside mostly set going forward, I believe.

1.08 - SFV Schwarzwälder FV @ 5-3-3 (18 points) - CM Jonathon Jameston (Joriel)

A fantastic new user to the sim scene, Joriel comes in at the 8th selection, a very versatile midfielder that should find work on any team. There are already a few targets on the majors roster in IA Erik Beermann and others in the minors to quickly surpass, and with the top tier user bonus, this Schwarzwälder team will be ecstatic to run this pick in.

1.09 - BA CA Buenos Aires @ 6-2-3 (20 points) - ST Peach Toadstool (WildfireMicro)

Buenos Aires takes a strong swing here with known sim league user, WildfireMicro. They're a great user and will be lined up as a replacement to the S14 Leo Fiachra and S15 Sean O'Leary on this Buenos Aires team. With no other strikers on the roster, and no one that seems immediately available to replace them, Buenos Aires is taking the last striker off the board, looking at that positional value here.

1.10 - Tenochtitlan CD Tenochtitlan @ 7-1-3 (22 points) [From União São Paulo] - RWB Vumion Stitcherson (Vumion)
1.11 - Tenochtitlan CD Tenochtitlan @ 7-1-3 (22 points) - CDM Sergio Raskel (Pennekeok)

Tenochtitlan gets to make a pair of back to back picks here, with the Vumion pick, while I've got him here, this seems like an easy BPA sort of move, assuming we can assign logic to the cache. Positionally, Tenochtitlan doesn't seem to have many holes, but possibly flipping Stitcherson's position and moving him up to LAM would work, or but really, the pick should be a great selection when  the CD Bérangère-Amandine Bruère-Estrangin (S16) starts to really hit that regression. And on the Sergio Raskel side, Tenochtitlan has a wealth of midfielders, and Pennekeok will have been chosen for the intangibles, Tenochtitlan management is cooking here.

1.12 - HFC Hollywood FC @ 8-2-1 (26 points) - GK Brad Woof (Brad Woof)

With the last selection of the draft, Hollywood takes GK Brad Woof, I assume that this is an easy selection over the 385 TPE Dexter Hall who is surely to regress into dust, except that S21 Maverick Jones is already at 1083 TPE, second in his class. This may just be a luxury pick for the Hollywood organization, it is hard to let someone like Brad Woof slip by, but I'm sure Hollywood is hoping for a position swap.

Alright, that's that! The Cache Mock, justified. I think that basically none of these picks are correct, but it's fun trying to figure out why they may be!
