What if your team was a Magic: the Gathering deck? Alright, we're in the second half now, which is very classically a soccer thing, so thematic bonus. We're up with União São Paulo / Association Sportive de Paris this go around, and we need to figure out what formats we'll be using. I think that USP having won a bit ago must be a good deck, and the black red scheme clearly is a Rakdos build, as the blue red of AS Paris is a UR Izzet deck, I've decided to go with a pair of banned decks because USP won and therefore must be good and we must ban Saba.
The benefit of using banned decks is that often they have fun names, such as Rakdos Scam: https://mtgtop8.com/event?e=50856&d=576951&f=MO
Scam? Is that too fitting for the menace that is Saba? NO. Scam was a menace that just tore apart the opponents hand, basically for free, while simultaneously creating huge amount of threat (xG). The main card of Grief sure fits because Saba gives me nothing but GRIEF for not grading enough articles. This was a pretty fun deck in that I like the lower resource games, but if you just get your hand stripped every game, not as fun. Cool deck, glad it's gone.
The UR AS Paris is going to be a newly banned deck in UR Vivi Cauldron. Featuring the ability to both combo kill on turn 3/4 in Standard (immensely fucked up btw), as well as grinding through long games, this deck was clearly busted and actually just killed people's desire to play Standard for a full quarter, ruining my regional championship qualifier season. Glad it's banned, but don't worry, the deck has been changed a bit and won the world championship this past weekend. AS Paris has players called up and I guess it doesn't matter!
MTG Top 8 is down for me, so Goldfish link: https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/7432842#paper
Featuring Vivi from Final Fantasy, this deck let you make infinite mana, draw a million cards, and also attack for a million. Crazy stuff!
