The Friendlies have come and gone and team USA finished 1 - 1 - 0 in the two matches against Benelux and British Isles
All in all we are thrilled with the results. In the Benelux game we jumped out to a 2-0 halftime lead and things were looking like smooth sailing. However Benelux fought back and knotted it up at 2 with goals in the 48th and 55th minute by Hercule. Harry Fantobeans put us back on top just three minutes later in the 58th minute however and things were starting to look good. Benelux is a tough squad though and Bob Berendsen scored the equalizer in the 79th minute. The teams were back and forth the rest of the match and it looked like we were going to settle for a draw. But Ryan Van Eyndhoven scored a dagger in the final minute of added time (90 +5) and that was that a 4-3 loss.
If you look at XG USA led 4.73 - 3.48 so the result was somewhat disappointing. Especially for me in the Liffeyside locker room since 3 of my teammates are on Benelux it would have been some fun bragging rights but alas @LtForestPuppyis now the supreme leader in the clubhouse haha.
Friendly number 2 went even better for USA. Pete Martell opened the scoring in the 9th minute and that 1-0 lead was it for a long long time. Halftime came and went, and most of the second half was done before Martell struck again in the 80th minute to give USA a 2-0 lead that we would not relinquish.
The XG in this game was 1.52 - 0.75 in favor of USA. We now are sure we have a team that can compete in the WSFC and are hoping that we can make some noise and get out of the group stage.
Our first match is against Oceania. We are prepared, and now somewhat battle tested. Can't wait to get this thing underway!
