Where are they now - Looking back at my own draft class.
#1
Hard to believe there have already been 3 draft classes since my own in S21. Back then i was brand new to the SSL and was hoping to find a club that I could be the GK of the future for ergo the name McTendie. So much has changed in such a short time. I became an expansion OM, completed the expansion draft and now 3 drafts as an OM. S22 was a huge building year, and S23 was a shock to a lot of the league with both of our squads advancing. But none of that is why we are here today. For today I am going to look at where the players went, where they are now, and TPE rankings.

There were a total of 41 players drafted in the S21 class. I'll go pick by pick for the first round, and then try to highlight some players that were either overdrafted or underdrafted.

1 OA - Maverick Jones by Holleywood FC - Maverick is currently the number 2 player in TPE from this class. He is still playing for the Hollywood organization for minor league squad Kaapstad. This was a home run pick at the time, and I'm sure Hollywood is still thrilled to have Jones on their squad.

2 OA - Allie Bunson by Shanghai Dragons FC - Allie is still playing with Shanghai and was promoted this offseson to have her first taste of major league action. Allie currently sits 4th in total TPE for the S21 class another great pick that Shanghai has to be thrilled with.

3 OA - Petter Lind by Shanghai Dragons FC - Lind is run by our very own commissioner Canadice. Currently 6th in total TPE it's hard to be upset about the slight overdraft in TPE when you selected someone who cares about the league as much as Canadice does. Much like Allie, Lind was recently called up and is set to make his major league debut this season.

4 OA - Daniel Herrera by Tokyo SC - Herrera is currently still in the Tokyo org playing for their minor league squad in Cairo. This is our first major overdraft as Herrera sits 16th in TPE for the class. Still an active user and a solid build, I have to imagine Tokyo may have gone a different direction if they had known Herrera would be almost 250 TPE behind the leaders in just 3 seasons.

5 OA - Roy Rivers by CA Buenos Aires - Roy is still plaing for Caba also just receiving a call up to the majors this offseason. Roy is 8th in class TPE and is set to be playing an important roll for CABA for a long time.

6 OA - Black Leg Sanji by AC Romana - Another slight overdraft here as Sanji is 12th now in class TPE. However Black Leg has been playing in the majors for Romana since season 22 after receiving a quick promotion and is set to be a very important player for them similar to Roy for CABA as they hunt to get to the upper division.

7 OA - Tommy Moff by Hollywood FC - Perhaps biggest overdraft so far Tommy sits 20th in class TPE. Tommy is still playing for Hollywood also still in their minor league squad similar to Hollywoods first pick. Still active and earning Moff still has a high ceiling to be a good defender for Hollywood in the future.

8 OA -  Kori Mizukana by Schwarzwälder FV - Mizukana is our first player who has changed orgs. Taken in the expansion draft Kori now plays for Xelajú Cósmico FC. 28th in class TPE Kori likely should have fallen further down the board at the time, but SFV saw enough in the first season to leave Kori exposed. Xel has had Mizukana playing for their minor league squad Masques, but Kori has done enough to earn a promotion to Xel for the upcoming season.

9 OA - Chicken McTendie by União São Paulo - When USP selected me I was a bit surprised since they already had a very solid GK ahead of me. However as history would write itself I ended up only spending 1 season in USP and in net once I was selected to be the expansion OM for Liffeyside. I am currently 5th in class TPE being the first who has earned more TPE then my draft slot.

10 OA - Carolina Salazar by CF Catalunya - Carolina sits 15th in TPE and is still playing for her drafting organization. Salazar was promoted this offseason and will be debuting soon for Cata. This was a solid pick not an overreach by much and Caolina has played well during the first 3 seasons for Seoul since being drafted.

11 OA - Snor Lax by Shanghai Dragons FC - Snor Lax was the steal of the first round as he leads this entire class in TPE. Unfortunately for Shanghai, they did not protect him in the expansion draft and we in Liffeyside didn't hesitate to make him our goalie of the present and future selecting him 1 OA in the following offseasons expansion draft. I think the only thing Shanghai may change about this pick, is protecting him one offseason later.

12 OA - Dandro da Silva by CD Tenochtitlan - Sandro was another steal sitting 3rd in class TPE and tops among non GK's. Sandro was promoted to CDT in season 22 and hasn't looked back since. Playing to an average match rating of 7.05 in S23 Sandro looks like they could be a lock down RD/RWB for CDT for the forseeable future.

Biggest Boost - After looking up and down the draft board it became clear very quickly who the most underappreciated player at the time was. Drafted 40th out of 41 players by Reyk - Elizabeth Rose Bloodflame now sits 10th in class TPE surpassing 30 players drafted ahead of them. Even more surprising is that ERB was traded to CDT before ever suiting up for Reyk. So this was an absolute steal for CDT to be able to get a player of this quality post draft.

Biggest Bust - Unfortunately for every great story there also has to be someone on the other end of the spectrum. CA Buenos Aires spent the 17th OA pick on Frosty Steel. Frosty would never spend a single TPE earned after draft day sitting at 408 spent even though they did earn up to 524 before going IA. Frosty did play 2 seasons in Athenai before being cut after S22.

Wonderful Write-up, wish you continued into rd2 so you could muse on what happened to USPs other pick in this class
