Do you remember MTV cribs? Have you ever watched a sports program that surrounded the players from your favorite team but had absolutely nothing to do with their training or playing?
There are very few days off as professional athletes. In fact, even during the offseason, players like North Shore United’s Dwayne Pruney are so intentional with their training that they often NEVER get a day off.
However, coming off their best performance (and his own top match) of the season in this week’s 5-0 victory over Cairo City, Pruney and the rest of the North Shore gang will get a well deserved day off from team management.
As the sunlight sinks into his bedroom, Pruney recognizes that he’s used the first few hours of his day off catching up on extra sleep. The rest will do good for recovery. A few hours extra in bed have percolated an appetite. With a stomach and metabolism that are used to regimented order, a slight deviation associated with today’s “relaxation” have started showing signs.
Quickly, and with rejuvenated energy, Pruney jumps out of bed and is into his track suit about as quickly as if he were late for a team meeting. But today isn’t about his performance on the pitch. There’s very few days where Pruney can really let himself have freedom like this. He quickly slides from his bedroom to the kitchen and scans the countertop for his keys. A nice mate morning breakfast at the local diner might be a nice treat. It has been such a long time since he’s had a tall stack of pancakes with chocolate chips. Before a minute has passed, he’s hopping himself into the driver’s seat, the engine begins to grumble and he is off to begin a day of frivolity and no responsibilities.
