With the Victoria Falls Eagles officially winning the Academy season after a commanding 4-1 victory over Stockholm, it's a good time to look back on the season with two remaining matchdays and evaluate Stockholm's middling finish.
Stockholm just couldn't seem to find their way. Two bad losses to start the season, with a goal differential of -10, really deflated the team morale, and it showed on the pitch. With a few tactical changes and the addition of some prospects, Stockholm was able to find its footing over the next few matchdays but was never able to string together consecutive wins. Ultimately, they were no match for some of the stronger academy teams, who used their quick speed and counters to really catch Stockholm off guard.
My team MVP for the season would be my midfield partner, Cody Maverick. He was a big offensive threat in every game. The towering midfield currently has 5 goals, which is among the top in the academy. He was unstoppable on corners, leading to the most shots in the academy. He will likely be one of the most sought-after players in the upcoming draft.
At the end of the day, the academy is a development league. For Stockholm, although the season didn't go the way they wanted to, I think it's fair to say a lot of the players have grown and developed physical and technical skills that they will use for their future organizations.
