After the first day of training at the SSL Academy, we approached some of the players to chat, and one young man in particular caught our attention.
Tall, with a robust build and a somewhat awkward way of speaking, he responded with, "¿Quien sos vos?" It turns out that Nacho Kusora speaks practically no English; he barely understood when we asked him his name.
Anyway, we just wanted to congratulate him on his two headed goals, to which he replied, "Eh? Gracias papá." From what we could gather, the young man is Argentinian, born in a "villa" (a poor neighborhood with a mix of immigrants) in Buenos Aires. His parents saved a lot of money for this trip, so only Nacho came to the country. Checking his social media, we learned that the big striker is a fan of Racing Club de Avellaneda, he really enjoys reading fantasy/science fiction, and his favorite food is a "choripan" (sausage sandwich) with beer, although he'll probably have to watch his diet from now on!
Although a bit rough around the edges, he seems like a very polite and respectful young man, so we didn't hesitate to offer our contact information to help him with anything he might need. We hope "El Alfil" Kusora has a great start to the season!
