HEya folks!
Scott the Scout back and ready to titillate your minds with some expert and exciting analysis on this beautiful academy class.
They say you should not judge books by their cover but I uncover covers faster than pig running from a butcher see!
Without further hemming and hawing, lets look at the first week of matches of this academy season.
Atletico Medellin 1 - 1 Istanbul F.K.
The first match was, all things considered a pretty quiet affair. However for player Ozzy Boudreaux (@Otis Boudreaux ) it will be a night to remember as only 8 minutes in he scored his first career goal in the SSL academy. This goal was not enough for Istanbul to get the win as Athletico equalized 5 minutes before time. Joshua Homme III Esquire Limited (@o1playz ) also had an important role and a great debut, being rated a 7.3 and providing the assist. However I cannot help but feel the istanbul fans, players and coach will be disapointed only getting 1 point from this match.
Victoria Falls Eagles 2 - 4 Stockholm IK
Question marks and eyebrows were most certainly raised with the appointment of rookie player/manager Rich Wynne @Hoodz_91 . However all the haters, doubters and detractors were quickly shut up after this first match performance. Not only did Rich Wynne lead them on the pitch tactically, they also managed to bag a goal for themselves. He was not afraid to let other people shine though, as Dennis van Huntelrooy (@Jeanious ) managed to bag a goal and assist for himself and earned himself a 8.0 rating. Victoria Falls did not have a terrible debut however they were unable to fully get into the match against a fired up Stockholm team.
Port Royal F.C. 4 - 2 Sydney City
This game was certainly a tale of two halves, a very quiet first half where only Port Royal managed to score and then an explosive second half. Although Sydney put in a valiant effort, they were unable to stop the barrage of goals Port Royal sent their way. Serious questions will need to be asked of the manager @CamGoldenGun who has not had a title challenging season since becoming an academy manager. Special attention should be given to Barry McGlynn ( @Definia ) Who managed to score a brace on their debut, a feat not many academy players can boast.
Adowa Accra FC 0 - 0 PS Jakarta
I am going to have to be honest, this match could have been an email. Adowa Accra seemed content just passing the ball around and not threatening the goal of PS Jakarta much. When both the highest rated players are goalkeepers you know you have had a dissapointing match. It will be up to the manager @RoyRivers to motivate his team for the next matches. Perhaps a tactical switch will also be necessary to survive in the cutthroat league that is the academy.
Player of the week: Barry McGlynn | @Definia | 2 Goals | 1 CCC | 9.3 Rating
Player of the week was an obvious choice this week, there have been good performers this week in all teams, however there has only been one Barry McGlynn. Scoring a brace on your debut is always impressive, however this brace is what allowed Port Royal to grab all 3 points in their opening game against Sydney which just makes it that much more valuable.
