Thoughts after first SIK Academy game
#1
Well, the first game against Victoria Falls went pretty well. A 4-2 win away from home is nothing to sneeze at regardless of level, and some really promising signs in terms of system and team cohesion considering the limited time the new coach had to train the team and set up a tactic.

Positive, front-foot wing play was the order of the day, and it paid off pretty well with a crazy number of crosses being pumped in towards the big man up top. Playing at left back, I was caught slightly between my natural inclination to push into midfield, and the tactical instruction to keep it simple and hug the touchline. It paid off going forwards as it was my dinked cross that was tapped in for our third goal, but at the other end of the pitch I did get caught out of position once or twice on quick counters as the opposition got down their right flank to cross for their second, with my attempt to block the cross nowhere near good enough.

All told, a 6.9 rating with an assist was a decent first runout. I'm sure the gaffer will be pleased with the miles I got in my legs, as I covered the 2nd most ground of any SIK player. Solid start with plenty to build on.

Lots to work on in training then. I've chosen to focus hard on my physicality for the next few weeks - a bit of pace and strength should me get up and down and deal with 1v1s against tricky wingers.

Roll on match 2!
