We managed to catch up with Seoul Mythic striker Luke Walker to discuss what the upcoming off-season has in store for him.
Luke, great to meet you. Congratulations on your golden boot with Seoul Mythic. Now that the season is over, what are your plans?
A few weeks of rest and relaxation. After the long season of hard work you need to recover and thankfully a few sunny weeks away with the wife will do nicely. She's been a rock behind the scenes, so it's time to put football to the back of the mind and walk away from the pressures and stress before I start to prepare for next season.
You're famously a real hard worker during the off season, coming back in fantastic shape and making sure you are coming back better than ever and ready for pre-season, is this a small step away from that?
Absolutely not, you have to recover or that fatigue, those small knocks, those come back to bite you. If you think I'm just going to take it easy until next season you are deluded. Once I'm back, I'm locked in. I already know when and where I'll be improving my game, the team behind me have made sure of that. Next season will be a definitive season in my career and I intend to show this league what I can do and that there is nothing they can to stop me excelling.
How do you handle the pressure of always needing to improve? Can it be too much at times?
Not at all, I improve for the team but mainly I am improving for me. The team want me to be the best version of myself, I want to be the best version of myself. But if I don't do that, the team will move on and I will be annoyed at myself. End of the day I know I have the drive to be the best and want to be the best for myself. While the team will push me, I am already pushing myself hard to be better.
If you had to describe your off-season in three words, what would they be?
Rest, improve, conquer.
What message would you give to supporters ahead of the new campaign?
Good times are ahead. The management know how to bring the best out of the team and will continue their good work into next season and beyond. Soon we will be a fixture at the top of the table and it won't be a surprise, it'll be expected. Seoul Mythic are on the up and up, there is just no way to stop that upward trend.
