Hello everyone ! Today I want to analyze the match of the 7th round of the second division of the SSL minor League against CS Rova Mpanjaka, which ended in a 2-2 draw. This is a very good result for us, considering the level of the opponent and the fact that this match was the first where CS Rova Mpanjaka lost points in principle in the championship.
Let's start with the statistics, according to tradition:
Distance Run (Km): Rova - 137.3, Seoul - 134.3
Average Rating: Rova - 7.014, Seoul - 6.942
Xg: Rova - 2.44, Seoul - 2.32
Shots On Target: Rova - 8, Seoul - 9
Shots: Rova - 19, Seoul - 13
Pass%: Rova - 87.016, Seoul - 84.091
The statistics of this match are very encouraging, because we showed ourselves at the same level and played on equal terms with Rova. We felt great in our attacks, having scored 2 goals, which we scored. We also missed 2, but it's still the best team in the league at the moment. Therefore, the progress of our team is visible! For my part, I played well, with a rating of 6.65, 13.9 distances per match, and 80.65% pass accuracy.
In short, it was a great match on our part. I am glad to be a part of this excellent result, and I hope that we will be able to show excellent results in the future.
Thank you very much for reading and see you very soon !

The short version is that the winner of the first ever SSL game is awarded the initial MacGuffin trophy, which is then passed on whenever the current title holder loses in competition play (Friendlies don't count). I will track how many games each team starts with the MacGuffin in order to determine the true best team in SSL history (because everyone knows the MacGuffin points are the true measure of greatness).
S5 ended with Sydney holding a commanding lead over a hotly contested battle for second. The league's steady growth led to a division split, which is largely what drove the two new teams (Uniao Sao Paulo and F.C. Kaapstad) to zero points in their debut seasons. It's going to be a challenge for any division two team to find their way to points moving forward...but not impossible. After all, Seoul MFC held the MacGuffin at the end of S5 before getting demoted to division two. They'll take the title with them to the lower division, so maybe we'll actually see some movement in the rankings. At least there are no new teams for the first time since the SSL's inception to muddy the waters even further.
Somehow the MacGuffin almost entirely bypassed the Cup tournament this season, resulting in the fewest points awarded since S1. The MacGuffin was passed around a decent amount despite the low volume, but there's a limit as to just how much it can be passed around when there are only 12 points awarded. Notably, Seoul MFC very nearly pulled off the trick of starting and ending the season with the MacGuffin, but lost in the final match day of the season to Inter London, who stood as a strong second in the season standings. More impressively, the MacGuffin only had two chances all season to jump back up to the top division, and both games were Inter London against all time MacGuffin point leader leader Sydney City. Inter London held strong both times, refusing to give up the MacGuffin and keeping it within division two. Impressive showing.

The upper ranks are entirely unchanged after S6, which makes sense since the upper all time ranks are entirely populated by upper division teams. With the MacGuffin being held by the lower division the entire season, we saw some more of the mid-tier teams climbing up into the battle for second overall. There was also some shakeup in the lower tiers, but the biggest movers were Seoul MFC and Inter London. However, Inter London swooping in the final week of the season to snatch the MacGuffin away from Seoul MFC could put a swift end to the lower division's run. Inter London won the lower division in S6, which means they'll be promoted to division one in S7. What does that mean for the lower division's MacGuffin hopes moving forward? Find out next time!

It was a few matches into the new season and Liffeyside were off to a somewhat middling start. I'd had a great campaign last year with 10 goals and 7 assists to help my team get promoted, but after my fortuitous goal in the season opener I hadn't been able to get much going on offense since then. The team had been okay through that stretch with a win, a loss and a draw, but I hadn't been on the scoresheet in those matches.

"It's gonna sort itself out eventually, after the season you had last year the momentum should carry through," Caitlin had told me on our regular catch-up call. "When I was in that first season up with Calgary and hadn't scored a goal for half the year, it took me a while to remember that I could do it, and I have you to think for that. Just wanted to repay the favour."

"Thanks," I smiled back. "Sorry I can't talk longer, have to leave for training soon. We've got a big match against Catalunya up next, and if I'm going to get out of this slump I need to take advantage of every moment to improve."

When I got to the training ground for the morning, my equipment bag slung over my shoulder, the walk to the dressing room seemed oddly silent, totally unlike the usual spirited environment before an important match. I turned the corner towards the room and was greeted with a wall of noise, my teammates and even the coaches mobbing me. "What's this about?" I asked, confused.

"Did you not hear?" one of my teammates called back. "You made Division 2 MVP and got Team of the Year at attacking mid!" My jaw hung open, perplexed, but soon the moment hit me and I was celebrating with everyone else. It felt like I had finally reached my dream of being a professional football player and excelling in the job, and I couldn't imagine doing it with anyone other than my hometown club, even though they hadn't existed at all when I was a kid. We jogged out to the pitch together and it was right back to all business, getting ready for a pivotal match that could determine the momentum of the rest of our season.

After avoiding the media for a little while, Swiss Cheese has recently had a respectable enough game to face the press and take some questions regarding the start of their career as a goalkeeper. It's their first-ever media appearance since signing with Stockholm, and there's quite a bit to talk about already.

Press Member: "Swiss, through 7 games, you've been rather polarizing with 2 clean sheets but also 15 goals conceded, tied for most in the Academy. That averages out to 3 goals allowed per game in the 5 games you've allowed any. Is there anything in particular that's been causing this inconsistency?"

Cheese: "Ok, so in the first game I played, I actually had a bit of a misunderstanding. You see, I'm rather new to the sport and still wrapping my head around how it works, and I remember reading online that the objective of the game is to get the ball into the net, right? Like, that's how you get points? So I thought, "ok, easy enough", and allowed those 3 goals, thinking I was doing really well. So imagine my surprise when, after the game, I find out we lost. It's actually one particular net we want the ball to enter, the one on the other side of the field, and not just either of them. I think my trainers were trying to explain this to me during halftime, but it just wasn't clicking then. I understand much better now."

Press Member: "...uhhh, well, good to hear you've cleared that up, but you've remained rather inconsistent since then. Is it still a rules misunderstanding or...?"

Cheese: "No, no that was just at the start. I'll admit there are a lot of aspects of goalkeeping I'm still trying to improve at, alongside just bettering my conditioning. I'm not terribly fast or a very good processor yet, and I'm finding the fact that attackers can quite literally shoot the ball through me to be more troublesome than anticipated. Rather than working on these issues, however, I actually tried to use them as a sort of hidden competitive advantage for a little while. It didn't work out, though, so I've since resumed training."

Press Member: "What? You thought those weaknesses provided you with an advantage? How?"

Cheese: "You see, while having those weaknesses in my game definitely wasn't preferable, I thought that having an abundance of them could actually help me in a way. My thinking was that by providing attackers with a number of ways to beat me, perhaps they would be struck with decision paralysis. "Cheese is pretty slow, do I just kick towards the opposite end of the net? Or maybe straight through them? Their decision-making is suspect too, though, maybe I can just kick anywhere and they'll dive the wrong way?" See, the idea was they'd get bogged down by these choices and they'd hesitate just long enough for our defenders to re-position themselves or at least give me time to try and read where the attacker's about to send the ball. Like I said earlier, it hasn't really worked, and I've gone away from that strategy with the coaching staff's gentle suggestion to actually just improve my skillset. Personally, I thought it was an interesting idea, but not every idea's gonna be a winner, you know?"

Press Member: "Oh... that's certainly a umm, unique approach to the game. Well, we are looking forward to seeing how you perform in the future with this new direction. Thanks for coming out here tonight, and good luck with your upcoming matches."

Swiss Cheese exits the podium, leaving those in attendance with far more questions than answers. On the bright side, some of Cheese's other stats should give Stockholm fans reason to hope: they've at least made a lot of saves, with 34 recorded, despite their above comments. Although this interview does cast into question how many of those saves were even on purpose, given Cheese's... still-developing understanding of goalkeeping. Regardless, there will be many eyes on Swiss going forward, looking to see if their new training regimen leads to less volatile performances.

While Stockholm hasn't had the best start for their first half of the academy season, there is still a lot of positives on the team, and good things to look forward for. As of the end of the seventh matchday, they sit in fifth place, 10 points behind a Jakarta team that has yet to lose a game yet. For my PT this week, I want to look at all the players on the team (not including legends), and show how well they are playing this season, and why they give Stockholm a chance to have a stronger second half if a little more luck goes our way.

Starting in goal with Swiss Cheese. While Stokholm is tied for giving up the most goals out of all the teams, its hard to put the blame on Cheese. They'd definitely had to face a lot of tough shots and lead the league in total saves and being second in expected number of goals prevented. They also have the second lowest expected save percentage which just further proves that their job is a lot harder than a lot of other goalkeepers in the league and if Stockholm can shore up their defense, we can expect more clean sheets out of Cheese.

Next up is arguably the best player on the team and arguably the best defender in the academy Captain Metalbeard. Metalbeard leads other defenders (non-legends) in the league in many key categories like distance run, successful crosses, header percentage, interceptions, and probably some more that I'm missing. They have the highest average rating on the team as well. While they started off in more of a fullback role, the team needed more offense so even with a role switch, they have been performing really well. If there is a best xi for the academy team at the end of the season, definitely expect to see Metalbeard on that shortlist.

Next up is Butters Stoch who plays more of a deep lying playmaker role for the team. Their passing game helps connect the whole team together and as the sole defensive midfielder they are fed the ball a lot. This leads them to have the most successful and attemped passes in the entire league out of non legend players and they have made the most of their passes with them totaling 80 progressive passes which leads the league by quite a bit. Stockholm's formation is a bit unconventional but Stoch has made the most of their opportunities.

Now going into the offensively inclined players, while the defense only has one non-legend player, the offense is made entirely of real players which adds a lot of options for the team. Felix Dono is the other player in the central midfield for Stockholm and they have had a direct contribution to the score board for the team. They have five goal contributions, most of which come from assists. Its surprising that they don't have more assists considering they also lead the league in key passes.

Now for the right winger, my own player Daan Wouters. Don't think my player was fast enough to start the season and the reroll happened a little too late so we haven't really seen the effects of it yet. One of the lowest average ratings in the league though, so definitely needs to pick up his performance so that Metalbeard isn't carrying the team too much on the right side. Playing as more of an inside forward though, hopefully can pick up some more shots on target.

Bonnibel Bubblegum is one of the top strikers in the league and is very much in the race for the golden boot. Despite sitting a lot lower in expected goals, Bubblegum has six goals in seven games and has definitely taken the lead striker role. They have the most shots on goal in the league as well, just need to put themselves in some better positions to score and they could easily go first place for goals scored. The other striker Leif Janson joined a little later into the season so they only have five games played but they have helped provide for Bubblegum as an advanced forward. They have a goal and an assist apiece but if anything they have been underperforming their expected goals and expected assists so they just need to get a little lucky to get those numbers up.

Victoria Falls has loss 2 and drew 1 in the last 3 games after a hot start to the season. The boss has been playing with tactics to get the advantage back but it seems no matter what we do we can’t keep a lead. Tex Star ever switched positions last game and ended his goal streak, but even creating opportunities for teammates they squad just found nothing in the back of the net falling 3-0. Tex thought moving to a more natural position of attacking mid may help him still score and also put pressure on to set up his teammates, but it was actually a worse showing without Tex at Striker to finish for the squad. Hopefully next few games Tex may return as the forward and Victoria can go back to finding their stride otherwise they’ll continue to drop down the table and lose their hopes of redeeming last seasons 2nd finish. After last game halfway through the season that puts Tex at a goal a game which is still really impressive but he has high expectations to improve past that mark by the end of the academy season and put his squad back at the top of the table. Will they find goals and victory next game or will they continue to fall down?

After a few slow weeks from Josh Harper, his coaches suggested he practice with one of the academy teams and asked him to share tips and drills to help them reach the next level. Little did he know he would also relight his fire to help his own game. The first tip that he would give them is to watch the field as a whole and try to anticipate what the opposing team will do. The day before, he thought of some practice drills on how to work on this. He came up with one-on-one drills and watching the opponent's body movement to anticipate what they will do, by watching their hips, making it easier to know which direction they are going. Seeing how well the players took to his words and training, it made him think back to his times when he was in the same position they are in. These flashbacks to the past and getting to work with the next generation of players and seeing their hard work and determination made him find joy in the game again, while also helping the upcoming players who might even become some of his teammates in the future. After the week-long training with the academy team, he went back into his next match with a certain fire lit under him and played amazingly.

Going into this season, Jonathon Jameston is just starting to get the hang of the league, so it's time to take a view of where he thinks he stands and how the season is going. With a switch from a midfielder to more of a defensive presence, he feels he is doing well within the confines of Paris. Paris is leading the league in Points with a solid Goal against versus Goals for Average. The Team is working well together even with some switches in personnel. There is scoring coming from a variety of players as well as solid defense being played by all. As such, there is no expectation for this to change in the near future.

As for personally, Jameston is doing a good job as a role player. While not a scorer, Jameston has been playing solid minutes helping to keeping the opponent's scoring down and getting the ball down the field to create scoring chances. The future expectation is that he will continue to improve and get better while thriving within the confines of his team. He will continue to play his role as a defender and role player with the hopes of getting more dynamic later on in his career. While he doesn't plan on being a scorer, he does plan on getting to the point to be a better setup man to get his team scoring opportunities.

After a decent start to the season, CF Catalunya has fallen on hard times to the tune of a 2-1-3 record and we find ourselves in 5th place in the league, currently in a “Play for your lives” position. That sucks. The good news is that we’re tied in points with Reykjavik United, and they’re just in front of us because of the slightly better (one goal) point differential. USP is in 1st place, 5 points ahead of us, and Hollywood (and Liffeyside) have 10 points. We’re not like, out of the race by any means but we need to start pulling off some wins. As for Alejandro Fuecoco, he’s not doing his part this season, and it’s slightly infuriating. Through 8 matchday games, Fuecoco only has 2 points. 1 goal and 1 assist. Whatever the hell Catalunya is running this season is not conducive to Fuecoco’s game and for him to be even better than he was a season ago, when he had 7 points in the 16 games that were played. His XG is down to 1.19. Things are NOT going well for him this year, which honestly plays into why the team is worse off this season, despite everyone gaining in TPE and being better players. Catalunya needs to stop being silly and they need to unlock their amazing, could be an All-Star CAM, and let him do his thing. Because this? This ain’t it.

Another season means another adventure for Elizabeth Rose Bloodflame, and this one is a doozy. During a visit to Hollywood for the team's opening match against Hollywood FC, Liz had intentionally disguised herself as a blonde to not be spotted by rabid fans of hers, since America has Liz's second-largest fanbase outside of her native England. However, the team was walking around Hollywood visiting several film studios, and while visiting Paramount, someone mistakenly thought that Liz looked like Sydney Sweeney. It was only then that she had to unleash the flame out of her chest to reveal that it was indeed a mistaken identity. However, little did Liz know that the BBC was actively filming something on the lot. Liz looked at the set and immediately spotted an iconic part of her childhood, the Tardis.
