HFC finished first in the league with a record of 10-2-2 and a GD of 20. 9 points above second place and 10 goals better than the next highest GD.

Most Valuable Player: Ricky Bobby @Gordon Bombay
Average rating of 7.85 led the league. 13 goals and 4 PotM in S6.

GK: Certified Problem
Only playing 7 league matches, Certified Problem still managed to rack up the most PotM awards among keepers and tied second most in clean sheets.

Twelfth in the league in average rating among outfielders, tenth in the league in total clearances.

Tied seventh in interceptions. Tenth in the league in clearances.

Second in average rating among outfielders in Div 2. Led Div 2 in goals (13), shots on target (31), and PotM awards (4).

S5 Division II Awards

The 5th Season of Simulation Soccer League was the probably the most intriguing so far. With 6 teams fighting for promotion from the 2nd Division, we saw some epic battles across the globe, from the favelas of Latin America to the streets of the UK. Montreal United, Adowa Accra, Buenos Aires and Inter London, coming from the Div I were the initial contenders for the first spots, but the newly created expansion teams, União São Paulo and Football Club Kaapstad, proved that they would not be push-overs.
After amazing performances from from all the teams, the promotions spots were uncertain up until the very last Game Day. In the end, after one of the most suspenseful game compilation, Accra and Sao Paulo celebrated their entrance to the highest SSL Division.

Starting their SSL Management journey with the best possible way Matty86/Laser gained promotion for their the Brazilian side of Sau Paulo. Playing attractive and solid soccer and keeping their side the most disciplined and focused one against any opponent, the Brazilian side made all of keeping notes about their tactical achievement.

SSL Div II Rookie of the Year

The lad from Galway had an excellent Rookie season for Cape Town, helping them to be close to the promotion spots up until the end.In 9.5 appearances, Lochlann managed to find the net 6 times, providing 1 assist and 10(!) key passes. Added to this, he showed no reason to respect the elder defenders, managing more than 1 Dribble per game.

SSL Div II Most Valuable Player (MVP) & Golden Boot

In his only 2nd Season in SSL, Konstantin Selich proved right the predictions that he is aiming for greatness. Achieving both MVP and Top Scorer awards, Selich looked unbeatable for the almost all the games he played. 9 goals, 3 assists, 4 PoTM, 7.85 average rating, more than 2 dribbles per game and 22 fouls against. All the above are just numbers that give a small hint of how magnificent a players like Selich was in season 5.

Adowa Accra’s promotion story could have been a whole lot different, if there was not for the magical season that Luke had. His excellent athletism and commanding presense under the goal posts, were enough to rate him as one of the best goalkeepers in the league. Especially by the end of the season, Laraque 7.12 rating and 4 Clean Sheets, seem very little to actually show his promotion contribution.

6 Assists for those two magicians coming with very different ways. Aimo, playing for Buenos Aires for the past 4 seasons, showed excellent technique and vision, delivering his colleagues with the easy job of scoring. On the other hand, the pacey and athletic Rizzo surprised everyone and especially the opposition defence, with the speed and precision that proved to be game changers for Accra’s promotion.

S5 Manager of the year goes to Johan Hernández [@omniscius] and Watermelon Pep [@twix] for their work with CF Catalunya. Despite losing out on the title on the last matchday of the season and getting knocked out in the quarter finals of the SSL Cup on away goal, they demonstrated that there are advantages to playing with a bigger side winning Catalunya's second trophy and first SSL Shield at the start of the season. These managers have managed to balance winning with having a large active squad even having super sub Mojo Rizing earn a Best XI nomination. It'll be a wonder if they can finally achieve that league title someday.

This season's only standout rookies both hailed from Tokyo S.C, but it's Dobby Roobe who edges it out here over Josh Burgers for the SSL S5 Rookie of the year. Dobby Roobe would go on to nab 3 goals and 3 assist on the season while playing a crucial role in the Tokyo midfield over 15.5 appearances. Their ability to create chances and pick out key passes help separate them from the rest of the pack.

It was an absolutely outstanding year for Gerrard, who becomes the first defensive player to take home the Most Valuable Player honours in the league. Gerrard would finish with an outstanding 7.97 Average Rating thanks to their 5 Player of the Match awards during Division 1 play. Gerrard had an astounding 82 Key Passes for the Hollywood side (2nd highest was 59) while consistently making attacking runs from out wide and puzzling defenders with their penchant for dribbling

First the battle for goalkeeper of the year was edged over Elmis the Heretic by Alexandria Gunnarsson [@RenoJackson] by a single vote. Both great keepers and could have gone either way. Alexandria Gunnarsson though did well to carry CF Catalunya within a single win of the league title. Easily one of their standout players, Gunnarsson earned Catalunya valueable points regularly being overworked for a club that was top 3 in the league table all season long.

The defensive pair protecting Gunnarsson in the back this season is Sator Freddy and Jökull Júlíusson. Sator Freddy helped bring Sydney to glory in winning their SSL League Championship Title (the first expansion side to do so) and the SSL Cup. Sator Freddy put up some impressive numbers with 248 successful headers at a 91.2 % accuracy alone is quite the feat but offensively he scored 2 goals of his own as well as completing 1004 passes at a 95.1 % accuracy. Jökull Júlíusson managed a goal as well as an impressive 97.7 % passing accuracy despite completing 1210 passes. With 50 interceptions, 21 key headers, and a 86.7 % tackle completion rate Júlíusson provides the coverage needed for Catalunya to play their aggressive high block pressing system. Both these centrebacks are perfect examples of the modern day ball playing defender.

Well the team of the year can't be complete without the league MVP Gerald Gerrard. Through a close tiebreaker, Ask Jeeves joins him on this list for best wingbacks in S5. Honestly, this truly was the season where wingbacks broke out and everyone who was nominated were putting up impressive numbers.

Another extremely competitive position this season was the central midfield role where Mikko Rashford, who has long been among the elite, shares his spot with Budget Busquets. Mikko Rashford is the more advanced of the two with Busquets playing a deeper defensive facilitating role. Rashford has long been the cog of Hollywood FC's midfield and this season was given more freedom to go forward. He returned his coach's favour by providing 3 goals and 4 assists as well as 47 key passes at a 87.5 % pass completion rate. He had 27 tackles at a 90% completion rate with 26 interceptions on the defensive end.

Jones, a mainstay in the Team of the Year again finds himself taking home the most votes for wingers in the league. Jones would find themselves nabbing 11 goal involvements on the season with their stellar 7.33 Average Rating. Jones would also add 35 Key Passes and 14 Chances Created to round out some fantastic offensive play.

Kuai is another phenomenal winger who took their game to another level during S5. With a similar 7.34 Average Rating and 7 Goal involvements for the Sydney side that took home the double. Kuai would create 10 Chances on the season and attribute 39 Key Passes to one of the league’s most potent offenses

Best Strikers: Owen Forty-Four (9); Sky Ryze (5); Mojo Rizing (3); Jay Jay Okocha (2); Connor Azipillcueta (1)

Owen Forty-Four might simply be the best striker the league has seen thus far. During Season 5, 44 would find the back of the net an outstanding 19 times in only 14 league matches, double that of the second closest striker as they accounted for the majority of Sydney scoring on the season. To add to their incredible scoring tally, they would also assist their teammates on 4 occasions.

Our second striker in the Team of the Year plays a much different style. Ryze has always been known for using his head and this season found the back of the net on 9 occasions during league play.

Hey it's Omni and as per usual I'm late with the awards again. Please dkm, here's a copypasta for you: People trashing omni in the ssl thread. Here you fucking go. This is the S4 awards. No touches with no service, but when he does get it, it's done. This season was exciting literally until the final matchday where 5 teams battled against the relegation playoffs. Unfortunately, defending champs Inter London were to face the drop alongside Montreal, Buenos Aires, and Accra. Tokyo S.C. regularly featuring in the bottom half of the table managed a surprise title challenge and upset title favourites like Hollywood, Sydney, and Catalunya. Finally, CF Catalunya managed to win their first trophy (and the first for any expansion side) by overcoming Athenai in the finals 2-1 (all goals scored on penalties, much controversy). There were so many amazing players that 2 positions needed a deciding vote to decide the Best 11. Votes are compiled between some managers and BoD for the Manager of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Most Value Player of the Year, and Team of the Year. Sticking with the 4-4-2, the Team of the Season is compiled of the best Keeper, top 2 centrebacks, top 2 widebacks (DL/R WBL/R), top 2 central midfielders (DMC, MC, AMC), top 2 wingers (ML/R AML/R), and top 2 strikers. After toiling near the bottom of the league since their inception in Season 1, Tokyo S.C. absolutely stunned the league in Season 4, finishing with 15 wins, 2 draws, and 5 losses to finish on 47 points, 3 points clear of 2nd place Sydney City. The team's dominance was led by their nearly impenetrable defense, which allowed only 18 goals in 22 matches, the best goals per game allowed in league history. Offensively, the team excelled as well, scoring 46 goals in the league, good for 2nd best. Greydon and NHam deserve a world of credit for the turnaround as Tokyo finished 2nd to last in the league the three seasons prior before their explosive championship run.

João had an absolute season to remember in S4 with Tokyo. Not only did Morelli create, adding 6 assists during League play, but they also found the back of the net an astounding 11 times. Morelli used their versatile skillset to ensure that whenever they were on the pitch, opposing defenses had to keep their eye on them. Morelli also had 37 Key Passes, to go along with 16 chances created on the season.

There are 3 guarantees in life: death, taxes, and Owen Forty-Four scoring. You fear him, you dread him, but you can’t hide from him. He keeps keepers across the league up at night and managers like myself throwing our laptops out the window. I personally fear playing Sydney the most and this man is one of the main reasons behind it. He’s been gunning for this award for awhile and this might not even be his best season. He’s truly taken over the SSL having amassed 26 goals in 22 league appearances this past season as well as a whomping league career best of 64 goals in 58 appearances. What’s even more impressive is that Owen Forty-Four scored over 50% of his team’s goals last season. You add in his assists and he’s contributed over 60% of Sydney’s goals last season.

Owen Forty-Four ran away with the golden boot this season and has given himself a sizable lead in the SSL’s all-time goal scorers list. With 2 back to back golden boots and a great start to this season, it’ll be hard to see this going to someone else next season.

Hill was elite during Season 4 play. Their 11 Clean Sheets went well with their near 83% save percentage. Kody conceded only 18 times during league play and was the key aspect to the backline that kept Tokyo in the driver’s seat for most of the season.
Both Gunnarsson and Yeboah had very respectable seasons as well, and both are projected to be a mainstay in future Team of the Year conversations

It is not often that a team has such an elite defence, that they get both Central Defensive positions on the TOTY. But such is life for the S4 League Champions whose dynamic partnership kept opposing teams struggling to score. Vercetti would take home 3 Player of the Match awards during the season, an outstanding achievement for a Centreback while finishing the season with a 7.52 AVG Rating.

His partner, Rup, would also take home 3 Player of the Match awards, while also contributing on the scoresheet with 3 Goals and 2 Assists. Both defenders excelled in moving the ball with exceptional pass completion, while also ensuring Hill didn't have to face a crazy amount of tough shots with over 240 clearances each, and a plethora of Key Headers.

Yoker was an offence generating machine during Season 4 for Athênai. On a team know for exceptional defensive play, Yoker found themselves as a key cog to the offence with their 86 Key Passes and 18 Chances Created, this gameplay led them to 8 Assists on the season.

Jeeves was no slouch themselves for Cairo City. They racked up 10 Assists during Season 4 and had 79 Key Passes and 15 Chances Created. The revamped Cairo offence was truly only possible from the gameplay of Jeeves, who ensured their defensive game was up to snuff as well, finishing with a 7.35 Average Rating

The exceptional play of Rup and Vercetti was great and all, but at some point the ball needed to get into the net, and Isagi might have been the most important piece to that puzzle. Isagi did everything, they added 5 goals, 7 assists, and consistently gave nightmares to other teams. Their 106 Key Passes and 23 Chances Created put every goalie on edge and helped Tokyo’s offence hum along.

Busquets, a mainstay on the Team of the Year, took home 3 Player of the Match awards for the ball possessing Catalunya. Budget’s ability to facilitate the ball and distribute it throughout their team was key to the team's success. Busquets added 23 Key Passes and 21 Key Headers on the season, showing both a knack for offence and a strong defensive presence in the lineup.

Liang Kuai is probably the greatest Chinese player to ever step foot on the pitch in the SSL. Known to terrorize opposing teams, they’d add 14 goal involvements on the season for a London squad that generally struggled to produce. They would consistently produce Key Passes each and every game, racking up 59 on the season, while also spinning defenders around in all directions with their 50 Dribbles.

Hunter Jones has found himself on the Team of the Season before, but previously as a Striker. This time, the re-invented player dropped a little further back on the pitch and began to attack teams from the Wing. Jones would score 12 Goals in League play to go along with their 6 Assists. Similar to Kuai, Jones was exceptional with creating for their teammates as well, with 49 Key Passes and 24 Chances Created.

What more is there to say about Forty-Four. The prolific, MVP winning striker did everything that Sydney asked them to do during the season. I think if you asked any fan of the SSL what the most surprising part of the season was, they’d probably answer that they could have easily seen Forty-Four end the season with 40 Goals, he was just that good.

Azpilicueta on the other hand found themselves in a new team this season after a surprising move from Inter London. The striker would put 13 Goals past opposing team’s keepers while also creating chances for his strike partner in Torres. For a team that at times looked like they might drop down into the 2nd Division, Azpilicueta continuously displayed brilliant performances and seemingly willed Cairo City out of the relegation battle.

Late, but finally here are the S3 Awards. With the S4 season almost halfway done, I’d like to apologize for how late they’ve come out. The goal is to do a live award show moving forward if possible. For this season’s awards, we’ve decided to stick with the old format. Votes are compiled between some managers and BoD for the Manager of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Most Value Player of the Year, and Team of the Year. Sticking with the 4-4-2, the Team of the Season is compiled of the best Keeper, top 2 centrebacks, top 2 widebacks (DL/R WBL/R), top 2 central midfielders (DMC, MC, AMC), top 2 wingers (ML/R AML/R), and top 2 strikers. I am proud to announce the winners of these awards:

For the first award of the night, this was a tightly contested award with a split of 1 vote. A big hand to @thevoicelesscreator for their hand in winning the league for Inter London FC in their first season. She definitely deserves a mention because it wasn’t an easy decision for the voters and it was a marginally close victory. As for Pau and Aneeq though, they left their clubs in the expansion draft to found Sydney City which in their inaugural season were SSL league runners-up and SSL Cup finalists. They managed to produce a really entertaining kill or be killed brand of football that ultimately put them on a Cinderella run that I think no one really expected.

SSL Rookie of the Year

Juha Jarvinen was the first pick of the second round, or 13th overall by CF Catalunya. He slotted right in as they had lost fellow wingback Xherdan Xhaka. Known for his speed, Juha Jarvinen was one of the top dribblers in the entire league on the left flank for Catalunya. Being used as a wingback he regularly beat his man using his lightning quick pace. He is so fast, the game mechanics had to put a physical limit on his speed so it wouldn’t crash, otherwise, he’d probably be even faster on the 3-D match engine. Moving forward, it’ll be interesting to see what direction they go since they can’t upgrade pace or acceleration anymore. Do they maximize another attribute or balance their build out.

SSL Most Valuable Player (MVP)

Tony Yeboah proved last season that keepers really do make the difference in fm. Shoutout to Owen Forty-Four for their incredible season, as this too was only split by 1 vote. Tony Yeboah winning continues the tradition of the league winners always being represented by the MVP winner. Tony Yeboah played significantly better than any other goalie in the league last season and came up big in some of the most crucial matches, which ultimately led them to the league title. I remember someone asked what it would take to win for a goalkeeper and at the time I didn’t see it happening, but Yeboah proved that a shot stopper can in fact be the most important player on his team and in the entire league. I wonder if we’ll see another keeper win within the next 10 seasons or if this was a one off anomaly.

SSL Golden Boot

Runner-Up: Connor Azpilicueta (19 goals)

Owen Forty-Four just squeezed past Connor Azpilicueta by a single goal in what was a tightly contested battle for both the golden boot and the SSL league title with Forty-Four’s club Sydney City being the runner-up and Azpilicueta’s respective club, Inter London FC, coming first to win it all on the second last matchday. Owen Forty-Four also scored the most in the SSL Cup and brought his club to the finals against Hollywood FC. Owen Forty-Four is an extremely pacey striker with a wicked shot. He’s known to frequently be caught offside, but nevertheless is equally known for his finishing. He was a huge expansion draft pick for Sydney City and is likely to be their frontman for the foreseeable future.

SSL Team of the Year (Best XI)

Goalkeeper: winner:Tony Yeboah (13) https://files.jcink.net/uploads2/simsocc...s/ILFC.png

Yeboah: was absolutely immense between the sticks for Inter London, as he sometimes single-handedly kept them in matches, making extraordinary save after extraordinary save. His 82.3% save percentage was over 5% better than any other starter, and he allowed the 2nd least goals amongst starters (26). He also had an average match rating of 7.29, which was easily tops among goalkeepers.

Centrebacks: Winners: Henrik Lind @Canadice (9) https://files.jcink.net/uploads2/simsocc...es/AFC.png, Jökull Júlíusson @MN_Moosey (5) https://files.jcink.net/uploads2/simsocc.../CFCat.png

Having a solid centreback pairing is important for any club that wants to win. You need that backline to be there for you when your players are pushing for goals. Our two winners here play quite different roles for their team though and thus are different types of centrebacks.

Henrik Lind: This is a pure defender right here. He was top 3 in headers completed with 91% success rate and key headers. The towering centreback also scored 4 goals on the season. He’s been one of the main defensive leaders for Athenai since season 1, so it’s no surprise to see him topping the list here. Athenai have been known as the most defensive team most seasons or relative to their position in the table and Henrik Lind is the main reason why. I expect him to be a mainstay in this league and if Jasep Anderson and Deedee Yoker remain at Athenai, I don’t see any reason for Athenai not to remain the defensive juggernauts they are.

Jökull Júlíusson On the other side, we have more of a ball-playing centreback. Júlíusson came second only to teammate Budget Busquets in passes completed in the entire league. His main duty for Catalunya was to help transition the ball from offence to defence. He’s also an aerial threat chipping in with 3 goals and an assist.. Also, a leader for Catalunya in helping cover for speedy rookie Juha Jarvinen allowing him the creativity to attack. Júlíusson is finally showing the league what a modern centreback looks like and it can only get scary from here.

The modern wingback is seen bombarding down the wings providing width and an overlapping option or even increasingly the use of inverted wingbacks providing support in the middle and providing an underlapping option. Essentially, these two players embody the modern day wingback that can both defend like a traditional one, but also be one of their club’s main creative outlets.

Linnea Nesse: We’ve seen throughout the short span of this league just how dangerous attacking wing backs can be, and Nesse definitely fits that mould. The Norwegian finished the season with an impressive 7 assists, an 88% pass completion rate, 65 key passes, and 15 chances created. She was no slouch defensively either, with 54 interceptions and 0 mistakes leading to goals.

Xherdan Xhaka: The Swiss wingback who was taken by Sydney City in the expansion draft really helped carry the team to a second place finish and cup finals appearance in Sydney’s inaugural season. Xhaka was also an explosive threat down the wing putting up 3 goals and 6 assists as well as an 88% pass completion, 47 key passes, 18 chances created, and 65 successful dribble takes. With 79 interceptions and 40 tackles, Xhaka was also solid at the back.

Runner-Ups: Gerald Gerald (4), Gfuel (3), Juha Jarvinen (3), Jonas Thessenvitz (1), Yannick Visser (1), Deedee Yoker (1), Jaume Vila (1)

Central Midfielder:

The heart of the midfield, these players tend to be the ones to receive passes from their defenders and create chances for their attackers. These two recipients show a spectrum of different skills and styles.

Budget Busquets: Our second returning player on this list, Budget Busquets forms the backbone of Catalunya’s midfield trio allowing his partners ahead of him the space and creativity to play their game. With the most passes completed (2779 at 95%) in the league Budget Busquets really dictated the tempo of his matches last season. With an assist, 20 key passes, and 2 chances created, it’s clear Busquets helps build up from the back more than creating from the front, but really Busquets really is the heart and soul of Catalunya’s tiki taka style. Not only can he distribute the ball to players higher up the pitch, but is productive when trying to win the ball back. With 101 successful headers with 20 being key, 12 tackles, and 22 interceptions, his aerial presence was much welcomed. It’s just a question now if he can ever help them translate that style with some success.

Malakai Black: Malakai Black is a much more offensive minded player banging in 7 goals from the midfield position as well as 3 assists, 65 key passes, 12 chances created, 88% pass completion rate, and 23 successful dribbles. On the defensive end, Black had 47 successful headers with 6 being key, 23 tackles, and 29 interceptions. Overall, they played a key role in Sydney City’s push for second and deservedly on this list amongst a bunch of world-class talents. Having bounced around the league a bit, it seems like Malakai Black has found his home in Sydney.

Wingers:

The Winger position is one of the most exciting positions in football. These are usually your extremely fast but creative players. These two players were just that for their respective squads adding a creative attacking threat on the flank.

Liang Kuai: I think it’s safe to say Liang Kuai became a household name in Season 3. The crafty winger showed us Chelsea Hazard-esque play frequently, seemingly creating (and often finishing) chances that sprung from nothing at all. Kuai was a threat every time he touched the ball, as evidenced by his 24 goal contributions (11 goals and 13 assists). His creativity really showed through in his statistics; he completed 62 dribbles and created 17 chances. Overall, Kuai proved time and again to be the most dangerous player on the pitch week in and week out.

Tim Possible: Tim Possible is yet another great expansion pick up for Sydney City (and one of two of their managers on this list). Possible, like Kuai was able to finish and create with his 12 goals and 10 assists. As well, he produced 73 key passes, 35 chances created, and 46 successful dribble takes. Possible was one of the keys to Sydney’s success and will be relied on with their partnership with Owen Forty-Four up top to produce when it matters.

Runner-Ups: K Clamence (3), Hunter Jones (3), Tiki Taka (1)

Strikers:

Easily one of the most popular positions on the pitch, this is the player who bangs in goals. Early on in the SSL pacey and clinical strikers have been heavily favoured, so it’s no surprise that both of these players are just that. These two strikers were banging them in at 1 goal per match or more. These 2 strikers scream goals and were the two most prolific strikers, so not a surprise to see an overwhelming amount of votes in their favour with just 2 out of 26 votes in favour of those outside these 2.

Owen Forty-Four: We already talked about Forty-Four a bit in the golden boot, so like enough said, am I right? 20 goals and 3 assists in 18 league appearances and a mouth-watering 11 goals and an assist in 7 cup appearances paints the picture of season 3’s most feared striker. It’s no wonder then everyone agreed he deserved a spot in the team of the year as well as Yeboah’s only real competition for mvp. Snubbed in his rookie season for the rookie of the year, Owen Forty-Four came out with a chip on his shoulder. With yet another snub, will Owen Forty-Four retire even more goalies this season? Will he show us next season that he’s here to stay?

Connor Azpilicueta: Formerly a centreback up until S3, Connor Azpilicueta wanted to score goals and felt like he had the skills to do it. And seeing another former defender in Ricky Bobby succeed in doing the same the season before probably gave Connor further encouragement. So the question is: is defence the best base for offence? In all seriousness though, Connor scored a ridiculous 19 goals in 18 league appearances to put him behind Forty-Four by a mere goal in the golden boot race. In the end though, Connor Azpilicueta helped his club win their first league title and left them on a high. Seeking a new adventure at bottom club Cairo City where expectations are low, he’ll help lift the club to new heights. It would be impressive if his project in Cairo sees him lifting another league trophy and potentially even winning the golden boot. It’ll be hard though, having to share the field with Franco Torres who is another top goal scorer. Or perhaps, they could become a deadly duo.
