I was considering joining the SSL for a few weeks and maybe it was partially because of the World Cup is in full swing that finally made me pull the trigger. I have heard already that the league is looking to expand with all the new players joining and hopefully that trend will continue. With there still being about 6-8 weeks left before the actual draft this could become one of the biggest draft class in league history.
In draft 23 there was 72 players available. 32 players would be drafted, 37 would remain free agents, and 3 chose retirement.
In draft 24 there was 29 players available. 16 players would be drafted and 13 would remain free agents.
In draft 25 there was 34 players available. 18 players would be drafted, 13 would remain free agents and 3 chose retirement.
In draft 26 there was 74 players available. 47 players would be drafted, 25 would remain free agents and 2 chose retirement.
As of this writing there are already 29 new players ready for draft class 27 and it is only the 2nd week available to create a player. With over 6 weeks left there is a good chance this draft could be higher than the 72-74 available players from drafts 26 and 23. My prediction is this number could be in the 90's and possible 100+.
With an average of 28 players drafted by the teams as well as an additional 22 player positions (if the there is an expansion) that should be about 50 players that could potentially be drafted in draft 27.
I am excited to see how big this draft class can get and how it expands the league. Great to see the league future is building and more players will be getting opportunity.
