It seemed like an eternity but we finally made it to the S26 prospect draft. I was really excited to see how it played out given all the talent in the draft.
Here is my perspective of how the first two rounds went as an ISFLer, Port Royal academy player, and new USP/ASP player.
Round 1
Port Royal top 3 let’s go! Surely with the top 3 picks coming from Port Royal, they won the academy, right?
1. Schwarzwälder FV - Barry McGlynn – In an incredibly deep class, an amazing selection here. While I don’t have a firsthand account of their Discord activity, I have read all the mock drafts that have been posted and it seems like they are by far the most active prospect in this class. They are also the wealthiest in the class. Definia was one of the few users that would almost always comment on my forum posts. BoD intern as well. What more could you want from a prospect? It would not surprise me if they are a future OM.
2. Schwarzwälder FV - Reece Munro – High TPE and a league job.
3. A.C. Romana - Jimothy Erickson – It does not surprise me that someone with two league jobs would get picked in the top 3. Especially when one of those jobs is simmer.
We got a nice run of promising ISFLers with these next 3 picks which was cool to see.
4. União São Paulo - Ignignokt – I cannot believe you guys let USP grab another top ISFL player. This is great news for me because that means he is my teammate. Looking forward to teaming up with him for hopefully many seasons to come.
I have Sei and Brightscales as similar prospects so I’ll discuss them together. They are top tier ISFL prospects. Incredibly active and both seem to contribute similarly in SSL. My understanding is that in the SSL they play a sought-after position. It is no surprise to me they got picked in the first half of the first round. Sei gets the nod only because they started earlier and have higher TPE.
5. Shanghai Dragons FC - S Sei
6. Xelajú Cósmico FC - Saphira Brightscales
The rest of round 1 I honestly don’t know much about beyond their class leading TPE as well as whatever league jobs they may already have. I am sure they are great picks and their teams are thrilled to have them.
7.Shanghai Dragons FC - Joe Mormor
8. Liffeyside Celtic FC - Jack Pow
9. Reykjavik United - Kairo Vox
10.Hollywood FC - Nick Kasak
11.CA Buenos Aires - Moew enBach
12. Hollywood FC - Joshua Homme III Esquire Limited
Round 2
13. Schwarzwälder FV - Christopher Bergmann – Just like those at the bottom half of round 1, I’m not super familiar with this player. Just looking at their TPE this seems about the right spot.
It took until the beginning of the second round, but we got our run on strikers.
14.União São Paulo - Owen Goal – Not going to lie, I was surprised to be the striker that would start the run on strikers. Given my unusual situation I thought I would be a mid-2nd round or even 3rd round selection. Those that bet the under won. I thought for sure Dante or Dennis would’ve been the strikers picked ahead of me given their activity. Another reason was I had a short list of teams that I thought might draft me as only 3 organizations scouted me. USP was one of the teams that scouted me and I am thrilled to be joining USP.
15.Hollywood FC - Dante Von Wolfe – I have not heard any of their commentary in the SSL, but I know they are the head of commentary in ISFL and are part of the commentary team here. Super active in ISFL so it makes sense that their OM with ISFL ties would pick him up.
16. CF Catalunya - Dennis van Huntelrooy – Again, I’m not sure how I got drafted before them.
17. Shanghai Dragons FC - Cory Stevens – Sorry I don’t know enough to comment.
18. Xelajú Cósmico FC - Isaiah Ali - Sorry I don’t know enough to comment.
19. CD Tenochtitlan - Blaise N'Kufo – A fellow 20/20 enjoyer. I thought they would get drafted before me despite my TPE advantage.
20. Liffeyside Celtic FC - Slabko Plačkovič - Sorry I don’t know enough to comment.
21. Reykjavik United - Alex Peña - Sorry I don’t know enough to comment.
These next two Port Royal players I’ll discuss as a group, I was surprised to see them fall this far, especially Unshark – until it was brought to my attention that Unshark is the AM for Tokyo – so this was a guaranteed pick. Two of the highest TPE players in the class at the bottom of round 2 is wild to me though.
22. CF Catalunya - STAR SCREAM
23.Tokyo S.C. - Scorp E. Unshark
24. Hollywood FC - Kaz Okada – I did not know this until recently but he was the 1OA pick in the DSFL draft just recently. They were/are a great prospect in DSFL. This might be the biggest steal in the draft. Can I even call someone picked in round 2 a steal?
