Academy Team Color's Review
#1
I found a nifty-keen sheet with all of the teams and their colors listed on it, and since I'll be spending the first season in the Academy (as I understand it), I thought it might be fun to look forward a bit. I was hoping to look at the kits and envision myself in one of those, and discuss the fasion of it all... but the one problem is that their kits aren't in the forum post, so we're left with just their colors and my imagination. And I do not have a great imagination. C'est la vie.

Sydney City

Colors: #340936 (Purple), #FFE204 (Gold), #FFFFFF (White)

Sydney City has opted to go with the traditional colors of royalty, a deep purple and gold - the gold is a little closer to yellow than gold in my opinion, but it's fine. These are a staple for a reason and the reason is that it works! The connotations of royalty imply success and power, which is reinforced by the gold. A little cliche, sure, but you can't go wrong with a combination like this.

Adowa Accra FC

Colors: #eb9f15 (Dark Orange / Bronze), #0f6f70 (Teal / Dark Cyan)

This is not one of my favorites. I'm generally not a fan of orange which is definitely skewing my opinion, so keep that in mind. But the fun part of personal rankings is the personal part! I think the strong contrast between the orange and dark teal works well enough but, to me, really struggles to be a cohesive concept. I think if the orange changed to something closer to yellow then there'd be some real progress and pop.

Stockholm IK

Colors: #003d8f (Cobalt), #ffcf50 (Mustard), #d40000 (Red)

I'm not sure if the teams from here on actually exist, as the first two had a season listed under 'established'. We'll see I guess. Anyway, what's the red doing here? It feels awfully jarring as a tertiary color after the blue and yellow for the primary and secondary. I know Blue/Yellow are heavily associated with Sweden, so maybe there's some connection there I'm just not familiar with for Red? I thought it was a really nice pairing with the deep navy and almost-gold plus the Sweden connection, but then the red just threw it all out of whack for me. It's a harsh red, too, not something softer. I guess if you have to be on the red scale, go for a pinkish color, but I'm just not a fan at all of that tertiary.

Atletico Medellin

Colors: #0071bc (Cerulean) , #d4a42d (Goldenrod), #cd1127 (Crimson)

Another red jump-scare! I think the yellow-brown is really doing a lot of work on this one, bridging the gap between the blue and red. Something about it being a more earthly color is really helping out. Overall I still don't like the Blue/Red contrast, but this is better than Stockholm's when considering all 3 together. I like the Blue/Yellow parts less but the whole concept more, for sure.

Victoria Falls Eagles

Colors: #0d8b00 (Forest Green), #f17d00 (Dark Orange), #000000 (Black)

Civ has taught me that the ugly green and orange combo is the colors of Australia sometimes and I'm assuming Victoria Falls is in Australia, but I don't care. I think it's a very ugly combination. I just don't think they work well together at all... if you have too much orange it just makes everything look like a pumpkin patch. If you can trim the orange down to be not-overbearing I guess it's possible to make it work as an earthy/foresty situation but it just doesn't tickle my fancy. I don't think the black helps much in any interpretation other than providing some contrast - just use white instead though, I think.

Port Royal F.C.

Colors: #007749 (Pine), #ffb81c (Amber / Orange)

Okay, now the orange is more like a yellow so that's an improvement... but I still don't love it. It's probably because the pairing really just makes me think of the Green Bay Packers. This kind of dark green is supposed to be this color of forests, nature, connecting to your roots and being at peace/calm and then it's paired with this bright yellow that just throws it all out the window. If you want to be generous there's a nature theme here (Sun/Trees), and maybe even a hopeful/optimistic angle - think green for go, green for growth, alongside the yellow. I just personally don't see it.

PS Jakarta

Colors: #ff0000 (Red), #FFFFFF (White), #ffb612 (Orange)

I'm just not sure what the orange is supposed to be doing here. Red/White is another classic combo, utilizing the white space to really let the bright red pop and speak out. So then what's orange doing here? Really harshes the vibe of the whole thing.

Istanbul FK

Colors: #000000 (Black), #ff0000 (Red), #00428c (Midnight Blue)

The Red/Black combo is, of course, a classic as well. I think  there's a world where you could do something interesting with red and this type of really deep blue, but just like in all the other cases of red+blue earlier it's just not working for me here. It is a really pretty blue color, though, so that's nice. I'm just not sure that it is really needed here.
