Africa by Toto, for the memes and vibes.

In her dorm room at the Victoria Falls Eagle’s academy, the small (but large in terms of Scorbunny) rabbit Pokemon. The small town is quite a contrast to when she was in Tokyo, though it does remind her a bit of Postwick back in Galar. The locals are friendly, curious of a talking rabbit who happens to be a talented Footballer, and the passion for the sport has been clear.

Even if the season has not gone the way her Academy mates have hoped. Not a single win yet, and the idea of “defense” is foreign to them. Their goalkeeper, McTendie, has played well, but has been left out to dry. Allie has been working on her defensive drills, but she’s expected to be an attacker, and quickly she’s realized that her speed is probably her best asset along with her playmaking. She’s made a handful of key passes and assists throughout the season. Most importantly, she’s been making friends, and her efforts have already gotten the attention of some scouts from the SSL’s Major and Minor league.

Outside of her window, Allie taps her feet as she wears a cute dress given to her by a nice lady who was a fan. It’s got a vibrant pattern and is a mix of team colours. Green, red, black, and gold. She has her phone out and is looking through pictures of her time in Zimbabwe. There’s a selfie of her on Chicken McTendie’s shoulders with the famous Victoria Falls in the background. Another is of her meeting a few kids in town, kicking the ball around. Then, there’s a pic of her being chased by a lion on an “Authentic African Safari.”

Quite the eventful first few months. Looking outside at the lush green of the town, she sees a bus roll up and she hops out of her chair and has a big grin, showing her buck teeth. She runs out as some people walk off the bus. It is full of humans, mostly locals and tourists looking to see the national park. But, finally, she sees a big white rabbit. Her ears stand up high as she has red fur on her legs, like tights. She has a bow on her ear. A Cinderace. The Scorbunny leaps up and gives her a hug.

“Mum!”

“Allie! It’s been some time!” Her mom holds Allie up. “My, you’ve been quite the busy lass?”

Allie’s nose twitches and she rubs the back of her head. “Hehe, I have been doing a wee bit of travelling thanks to the Academy haven’t I?”

Allie hops down and leads her mom around the village.

“I’ve been ‘ta Columbia, Australia, and Sweden as part of this Academy league though honestly this has been a nice small town to be in. Reminds me a bit of Postwick.”

“Are you sure we have as many Pyroars here, er,” Her mom corrects herself, Lions as here.”

“Don’t remind me.” The Right attacking midfield shudders. “I confused one for pyroar a while back. Was quite the shock. But the locals are nice here. There’s a feeling of community here and the Academy is treated like ‘their club’ so they always show up to matches along with some of the near-by towns. I’ve been meaning to get you a basket for home. There’s this lovely lass who makes them here.”

“I’ll grab one before I fly back.” The Cinderace smiles and pats her daughter on the head. “I’ve seen you’ve been working hard on the pitch.”

“The coaches here have really been good to me.” Allie mentions as they head towards the town square. There’s chickens running around with some of the locals talking, stands for fruit and pottery are set up. “They really want me to use my speed to my advantage and my teammates and I have gotten along… Despite the losses.” Allie sighs.

“The other academies seem to have a bit more ‘budget’ than you do here.”

“You think?” Allie rolls her eyes. “When Sydney inquired about me, they were concerned about a lack of ‘Bunny sized seats.’ What kind of shite is that? She uses a bit of her Galarian tongue, foul language. “If this was Tokyo, they’d be shouting ‘Baka’ over and over. But I guess it all happened for a reason.”

Allie mutters under her breath. “Would have been nice to score a goal at this point… It feels like a Mankey is climbing on me back...”

The Scorbunny has always been a playmaker first. She’s felt a fun challenge to try to set up her teammates for goals. Often playing on the right side, she’s enjoyed the open space to use her speed, and set someone up with a cross or even a hard pass as she cuts towards the goal. But usually she’d be able to find the back of the net once or twice by this point. Especially after a game where she had to take a penalty kick. The games are high scoring as of late, but she hasn’t been able to find the back of the net once.

Interrupting her train of thought, her mom smiles.

“Well, I will be in town for a week or two, so how about I see your next match?”

Allie raises her ears. Her mom may be a little extra, but she’d be lying if she would say she doesn’t miss her.

“That would be a great idea! We have Atletico next.”

Allie’s mom pats her head and the Victoria Falls Eagles player grins ear to ear.

“Oh, and I love your dress Allie, where did you get it?”

Allie motions with her paw. “Oh this, a fan in town made it for me. She’s been wanting to meet you. Her name is Sarai-”

The two fire types head down the trail, Allie eager to show her mom the town.

Match Day:

The Falls.

Hallowed ground for the Victoria Falls Eagles. The stadium has fans already beginning to pile in. There’s a section of supporters of Athletico behind the goal Athletico will be defending for the first half to the left of the goal. But the rest of the stadium is filled with VFE fans coming in. Some are wearing football jerseys, others have large scarfs with the black, green, and red of the team, and teams flags too. A section of fans around midfield have traditional African drums, looking to build an atmosphere for the match and guide some chants. No matter how good or bad a season is going, match day is a party.

Warming up on the pitch, Allie has her black uniform and shorts on. The number 13 is on her kit as she stretches her bunny legs, doing short sprints to get loose and comfortable. At this point, she’s comfortable, happy. Her heat pads on her feet leave slight warm spots on the pitch as she dribbles a ball and passes it to a teammate.

But, she can’t help but notice her mom and she facepaws herself.

In the front row on the right side of her end, the one Allie will be running down during the second half, she sees her mom with a unique attire. She has a white Victoria Falls jersey on, but over it, a Scorbunny hoodie.

No, not one with a Scorbunny logo, a literal Scorbunny shaped hoodie. With a face on the hood and large ears that hang over.

Allie sighs and darts over.

“Muuuuum,” She cries out. “Aren’t you going a wee bit overboard?”

Her mom chuckles. “Come on, they need to know who I’m supporting.”

“You’re the only Pokemon in the crowd of our species!” Allie covers her face with her ears. “It’s embarrassing.”

“Aww, it’s all for a bit of fun, Allie.”

Near-by, someone with a press badge sees them.

“Excuse me? Mind taking a picture for socials?”

Allie Bunson groans, but in the end, her mom is showing her support in her own way. Allie hops up and sits on the barricade and smiles as her mom  waves for the phone in her hoodie.

“How’s that?” She asks and the social media guy looks at his phone.

“Adorable. Let me guess, you two are related?”

“Gee, what made you guess?” Allie puts her paws on her hips, her mom laughs.

“She gets her sass after me. Thank you, mate.”

Mama Bunson waves and the social media guy continues to take pictures and video of the warm up. Patting her daughter on the back, the Cinderace smiles.

“Have fun and good luck, Allie. Remember, put your best head forward.”

“You mean foot?” Allie asks. “It is football.”

“Head, foot, doesn’t matter.” She chuckles and roughs up Allie’s fur. “Get out there.”

Allie runs out on the pitch for the match.

First Half:

MED Atlético Medellin 5
VFE Victoria Falls Eagles 0

“Let’s Pretend! Let’s Pretend!”

“Let’s Pretend That We Can Defend!”

A section of the crowd chants with some snark to have some fun at what is otherwise a rough fall behind. The last goal for Athletico was nearly called off-side, but was allowed upon review and the deficit is too much to overcome. Allie isn’t one for the defensive end, though she managed a slide tackle earlier, but she does feel somewhat responsible for the large gap in score.

The team marches back down the pitch, ready for another kickoff. Allie takes her spot on the right side and catches her breath. Looking up, she sees, farther down the pitch, her mom. The white hoodie and fur in a sea of black, green, and red. The score is at an impossible point to win. But she doesn’t want to give up-

Especially in front of her mom.

She pats her paws together and raises her voice.

“Alright lads and lasses, new match here! Let’s not give up…”

Her teammates, even though they feel a collective sense of dread for the rest of the match, they find it in them to pull themselves up as the ball is passed and the play begins again.

The ball is passed around a bit between her teammates, trying to force Atletico to move and break formation. Allie keeps back, watching the play develop. As Roy Rivers passes the ball back and begins to run up, Allie readies herself. All she needs is a good step forward.

Corrigan sees Allie take her step forward and launches the ball down field with a kick! Allie runs and she’s quick to get there first. Despite the defender on her, she manages to get past him and sees Roy in the crease. A hard pass towards the net and Rivers finishes it to give their team an answer!

Roy’s 9th of the season, and Allie’s third assist. The Scorbunny runs over and hops on Rivers’ shoulders as their team finally gets a bit of energy. The supporters feel a surge of positivity.

Though they are nowhere near Athletico, they have something to carry into the second half.

It was nice while it lasted for the team. Allie managed to get a second assist on a similar play, finding Banana in the crease for a counter punch. But Athletico was able to answer shortly after. The ball was kicked out of bounds and Victoria Falls gets the throw in. Allie stands on the opposite side of the field and kneels over, trying to catch her breath. She looks at the crowd behind her and her mom is front row. She gives a small clap with her paws, trying to will her daughter on.

Machado picks up the ball and Allie perks her ears up. She sees the throw in to Doug the second and he quickly passes the ball back. In a longshot play, Machado kicks the ball to the crease and it flies near Allie. The defender is there first, but Allie hops up and uses his shoulders to pull herself up-

And she headbutts the ball-

Into the back of the net!

A highlight reel goal! She just pulled a rabbit from out of her hat with that play!

The crowd comes alive as Allie grabs the ball and takes it out of the net. After she exits the crease she rolls the ball to the ref for the kickoff. As they’re about to line up-

Allie decides to quickly run over to her mom. She gives her a big hug, sharing her first goal with her. The monkey, er, Mankey is off her back.

Ok but I'd like a whole comic of Bunson's adventure, it is SOOOOOOOO good really ! Lots of effort put in and a fantastic read, hope you can show me how to manage to create something like this or I don't know if it's doable but having couple other member of the team participate in those insider story. Al-Kazmi really loves the work you've been doing on the field ! Sunshine of hope each match you run straight up the pitch. Keep it up teammate !

Depending on how the SSL grades articles/stories written by multiple parties, I'd be down in the future to co-write stories featuring multiple players, spread my experience around, and encourage creativity.

A question for Allie, our resident Scorbunny. I saw you had confused our African lions with Pyroars in the beginning. What went through your mind when you saw people eating Vanilla ice creams here for the first time? Felt an existential dread for a second?

I asked her, and she said "You do know we have Castellia Cones, mate? It's the same thing. That pokemon inspired Ice cream back home."
