With the Academy title clinched, the Victoria Falls Eagles are already in celebration mode.  In the spirit of having a good time off the pitch, our social media series is asking this week:

Quote:How do you enjoy your days off?

It is so important to have ways to enjoy yourself outside of your sport, just as it is important to have a life outside of any career.  I have already mentioned earlier in these interviews that I enjoy reading on matchdays to unwind and mentally prepare for the game, and that is something I also like to do on my days off, too.  Growing up surrounded by science – of both the stars above and the ground below – I most often enjoy reading a science fiction novel that bends the rules of science as we know them to create a thrilling adventure or tense drama.  On some of my off-days, I even like to build out fictional worlds myself, creating the backstories of interesting characters and writing short stories of their journeys and conflicts.  Football rarely makes an appearance in these stories (even if my teammates sometimes inspire the personalities and quirks of the characters I invent), which makes it a perfect rest day activity to unplug.  I have always wondered if I could write and publish a full-length novel one day; maybe after my football career when I can focus on a larger project.  For now, I'll stick to reading and writing more casually as great mental escapes.

I also enjoy exploring the outdoors with friends and family.  Throughout my whole life, I have always been fortunate to be surrounded by great natural beauty, from the cliffs of Tenerife to the mountains of Andalusia, and of course now the largest curtain of falling water in the world in Victoria Falls.  On my days off, I have enough time to get out for a full excursion, which might involve hiking, swimming, climbing, or whatever else nature can offer.  I wouldn’t call myself an “adrenaline junkie” exactly, but I do like to push the limits of adventure for the sake of having new experiences and making memories.  After this season ends, I am getting a group together to hike along the top rim of Victoria Falls and swim in the Devil’s pool, a natural infinity pool at the fall’s edge.  These adventures are about seeing the world in a new way and spending quality time with the people in my life.
